A police badge is supposed to signal safety. In Sarah Everard’s case, it became the tool that took it away, and we’re still angry about it. We jump on live for a raw recap of our full coverage, walk through who Sarah was, and trace how a normal night in London during COVID lockdown restrictions turned into a tragedy no one should have to fear.

We talk through the details we can share on social platforms: the shifting pandemic rules, the way “following directions” can be used against a good person, and how Wayne Cousins, an officer with the London Metropolitan Police, leveraged authority to control the situation. We also dig into the red flags and the uncomfortable questions around police accountability and institutional oversight, including why earlier incidents should have mattered before Sarah ever crossed his path.

From there, the focus widens to what happened next: the protests, the shattered trust, and the realities many women live with every day. We get practical about safety, including the frustrating fact that tools like pepper spray and mace are not even legal everywhere, and what that means for self defense and prevention. We also keep our tradition alive with music talk, band shoutouts, and a reminder that we’re building playlists alongside the hardest stories.

If you want the full details and our complete breakdown, go listen to the main episode, then come back and tell us what changes you want to see. Subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more people find us.

Live Setup And Drinks

SPEAKER_00

SPEAKER_00

Hello, and welcome to Raw, Uncut, Unedited, Unfiltered, all the uns uh drunk about something recap, where we recap our episode from Friday, from the previous Friday. And today we are recapping our coverage on Sarah Everard. Don't sit on Robert.

SPEAKER_01

Perfect.

SPEAKER_00

His emotional support plant. Um yeah, this is all good. Sound is good.

SPEAKER_01

Sounds good.

SPEAKER_00

Hello, we are on YouTube and TikTok Live. Hello. So yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm back. I'm back.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. So what are you having to drink over there?

SPEAKER_01

It's um Vista Bay. No, no, no. White claw green apple. And um I'm having a little bit of uh um crown apple crown apple.

SPEAKER_00

Crown apple.

SPEAKER_01

I'm looking at it. I'm like, I'm wanting to go get me some more. I'm about out. But no, this is mostly just uh the green apple white claw.

SPEAKER_00

And I have a pineapple white claw with a mango white claw and tropical Celsius.

SPEAKER_01

And you know that it's getting good when we can't even remember what we haven't.

SPEAKER_00

Right. We've yeah. We've already so we've already recorded we've already recorded our episode for Friday, for next Friday, and uh we've had our drinks, we've made some food to get ready for our festivities tomorrow, for our dinner tonight, and we're jumping on here real quick to uh do this little recap. So hello.

SPEAKER_01

Doing the thing.

SPEAKER_00

And all right, so Jesse, you get

Who Sarah Everard Was

SPEAKER_00

you get us started.

SPEAKER_01

Sarah Everard was an amazing human.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. And where where was she from?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, don't you ask me stupid shit like this? I don't remember this, man. I don't remember. Um she okay, so they lived in the United Kingdom. Yes. In London area.

SPEAKER_00

She well, she lived in London after she got older.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Uh she grew up in York.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I feel like I'm taking a test right now, Lindsay.

SPEAKER_00

Why am I taking a test? Well, I'm just seeing how much you paid attention to her in the episode.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I kind of did. I mean, I edited and stuff. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we get to hear, we get to record and then we get to hear ourselves.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, all the great details and all the things, like just an amazing person. And um what happened was not fucking, it wasn't great. It wasn't great. And you can tell the backstory, like growing up and all the all the other parts.

SPEAKER_00

So she uh yeah, she was super smart, her family was close and tight-knit. They were, you know, they're good, salt-of-the-art people. Her father was a professor, her mom worked for a charity organization. And then she, like I said, she moves to London, she's working at her dream job, she meets a great guy who's in the same um uh what's the word I'm in the same field as her. They were like digital marketing. And then and she was well traveled. She had gone to South Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, and then the world shuts down at 2020. In in 2020, not at 2020, you know. The world shuts down, and I don't know what that timer's for.

SPEAKER_01

I'm doing hand signals while Lindsay's talking. Isn't that cool?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I have freezer. I have drinks in the freezer.

SPEAKER_01

Oh you keep going. Drinks in the freezer.

SPEAKER_00

Drinks in the freezer.

SPEAKER_01

So which became the tragic incident that happened because London was being shut down because of COVID. And they were having they had uh restrictions, and then they unrestricted, then they re-restricted, and everybody was confused globally. We were just all just trying to get by and get out of the damn house. I mean, we were really tired of being sheltered in our own little bubble. Because our bubble, like most people don't have these really cool, lavish houses. We're just like, you know, three-bedroom, two-bath type house or whatever. Blue-collar people, just that we don't really have a lot of things to do in our own house. Exactly. Goodness gracious, and that's what I was talking about, even in the pod, which definitely go back and check out the pod because I was even talking about like that is just like a nest of turmoil that gets built up on people, and especially if they're not

COVID Lockdowns And Public Confusion

SPEAKER_01

like stable in any kind of way, if they have any kind of tendencies of doing something. A lot of people were unsafe. Yeah, they've a lot of people that followed through during uh COVID and criminal type activities, I do believe.

SPEAKER_00

We're gonna keep finding more and oh, yeah, there's a lot more cases that happen around that time period, unfortunately. Yeah, but so Sarah, it was like I said, London was on their third shutdown. Sarah is she's going to visit a friend, and I've got my little hat on because I got my hair and braids for the weekend. But oh, happy fourth, everybody. Goodness gracious. Well, it's past now. Well TikTok. Hope you have a safe and happy fourth tomorrow. We're doing the things, we're doing a crab bowl right now. I hope you had one because this will be out Wednesday.

SPEAKER_01

Low country bowl.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. We didn't we didn't buy the crab. But we got the shrimp, we got all the stuff going on. We finna get up in there because it's really good. Yeah, yeah. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

So way on over in uh an area called Kent, which is about 70, 80 miles from London, uh, there's this guy named Wayne Cousins. His his name is a red flag for me, first of all. I don't know why. Uh, but Wayne Cousins was an officer of the law. He worked for the London Metropolitan Police Department.

SPEAKER_01

And and like kind of multi-decorated, you know, like he's been through the classes. He he got all the way up to where he can protect parliament, uh, like a parliamentary badge, and he had, you know, things going on that were like pretty damn good. But at the same time, when he was

Wayne Cousins And Warning Signs

SPEAKER_01

at the uh at the station with all the other Bobbies and all the other folks, they called him the uh what was it called?

SPEAKER_00

The R the grapest.

SPEAKER_01

The yes the grapest. And with the R. And then I was just like, what? You're just gonna walk around and naturally say such a thing, and he fed off of that. I he was actually like boasting about that. I guarantee he was the guy that was in the office, and people were people were like, oh my god, here he comes. He's gonna show me something horrific.

SPEAKER_00

But yes, because he was known to do that. He was showing people's uh coworkers stuff on his phone that was completely inappropriate for the workplace. Yeah, and uh we have to be careful with our words on these apps. I didn't fold into it. No, you didn't. I was playing, I'm just I was just telling the audience and you all at the same time.

SPEAKER_01

We're playing the game correctly.

SPEAKER_00

And so this guy is sick in the head, and he's also been he had gone through uh McDonald's drive-thru uh indecently indecently exposed in front of minors, and he was never charged with that, and then he decides that he is going to live out a sick fantasy. Um, so he rents a car, he goes over to London without a particular person in mind, and Sarah Everard, who just happened to be walking home from a friend's house that night. Her walk was about 50 minutes from her actual house, and

The Ruse That Stopped Her

SPEAKER_00

Wayne Cousins got her under the ruse of her violating COVID restrictions.

SPEAKER_01

Which blew my mind, but she was trying to be a good person and kind of followed his direction and saying, Hey, you're out past curfew, I'm a I'm an officer, you need to get into this yellow car.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. She had just went to her friend's house to have a you know a bottle of wine, catch up, just get out of the house, and she had talked to her boyfriend on the way home, and she was almost there. She was almost there. The pictures, blue, everything is time stamped because London is CCTV, is everywhere. And the his the footage was actually caught on a bus dash cam. Yeah. And we're going to just let you guys go and listen to our coverage on what happened to her.

SPEAKER_01

My hair is just super Caucasian right now. Look at this, man.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, look at me. I'm in a hat with headphones on. This is this hat was specially crocheted for me.

SPEAKER_01

Well, look how tan you've been going to the bed, haven't you?

SPEAKER_00

I haven't this week. Really? I went once.

SPEAKER_01

I went once. You look so hot Latina right now, dude. I'm telling you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't hear myself in here.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know if you I hope you guys can hear me. You look so fabulous on the screen over here. Look at me though.

SPEAKER_00

I'm pasting. Well, we're gonna get some sunscreen.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna get burnt tomorrow, dude.

SPEAKER_00

It's going down. So we will be in the sun all day. We're gonna sunscreen.

SPEAKER_01

Catch us at uh Rum Island, anybody?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Rum Island, Olachua County Fairgrounds.

SPEAKER_01

We'll be floating and urinating on ourselves all day long.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. Ew. But that's just done.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you're that's unspoken. Unspoken. Okay.

The Crime And Where He Went

SPEAKER_00

So Wayne does a horrific crime to Sarah. And it is, it actually, the um the place where he leaves her remains is actually like a plot of land that his family own or that he owns with his family. He took his family there on holiday, uh, just a few days later.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because he had taken time off of work and then he Yeah, he needed mental health time. He had a plan and he had it, he had land in that area, which is like an hour and a half, maybe two hours away from him. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And he about an hour and 20 minutes if you're going, but if you go in, you know, 60 miles an hour.

SPEAKER_01

He had a plan to use this demographic to pick up somebody and do the horrific things. So, um, but like I said, definitely go back and check out because it is.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, go back and check out the full episode for the full details. Like I said, we have to be careful what we say on these apps. We keep getting restrictions, and we don't want that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, nobody likes us, but you know, I'm glad you like us. Thank you for coming in and checking out.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you, everybody, that's joining in on the TikTok. We love you guys. The TikTok. But so when everything comes out, women

Outrage Protests And Trust Broken

SPEAKER_00

are outraged, as they should be. Yeah. Because this is an officer of the law who just unalived somebody under false pretenses.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and there's details in that that we won't even say, but there is a lot of horrific things. And then he took his family to the same spot.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he took his family there.

SPEAKER_01

The the same or pond or whatever it was on the pond.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it was called Hoad's Wood, Hoad's Woods, which I said pisses me off just like Ruth's Chris. And because it's it just it's hard to it's for the mouth, it's hard to make hoads woods. I don't know, it's just difficult for me.

SPEAKER_01

And and I mean, uh, we appreciate being able to do true crime globally. Actually, Lindsay dumps it on me, by the way. I have no idea what's going on. But um, and thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I tell him the story, his reactions are natural and organic because most of the time he doesn't know the case at all. And even if he does know the case, he doesn't know most of the details. Yeah, and thank you, Great Britain, though, for being number Yeah, now thank you. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Um, we're just enjoying all of that, but I have been blown away by all the things that you have talked about from Great Britain, the true crime stuff that has happened in the London area and the Moors. We talked about the monsters of the Moors.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and we've got way more.

SPEAKER_01

We've got so many that we've talked about in that area to talk about from all over the world.

SPEAKER_00

But because unfortunately, true crime will never stop. And if it does, yay, we don't have a hobby no more.

SPEAKER_01

And Friday, we're going to South Africa. We just did that one actually just now. Uh it really messed with me because it took a turn for the worst. Yeah, I just did not know that was. We thought it was he thought it was gonna be a good time, and no, yeah, I had to yeah, but no, yeah, yeah, no, no, Lindsay, no. You

Why Charges And Oversight Matter

SPEAKER_01

always destroy me, Lindsay.

SPEAKER_00

I know. I'm so sorry. But you're getting more and more aware, you're more and more enlightened to things that are going on.

SPEAKER_01

And by the way, pay no attention to my analysis at the end of all these, but I try to, I do try to come up with some kind of conclusion of a positivity awareness type thing at the end of it. And then we also share a band, so that's that's cool.

SPEAKER_00

So if you're looking for to discover new music, definitely listen to the story. And then at the end, Jesse plugs a band that is up and coming that we do have permission to play. And actually, we just we will feature one on Friday that's been around for a while.

SPEAKER_01

And they are amazing, so good. Like it's your summer vibe.

SPEAKER_00

Certified. Certified. Hey, certified, bona fide.

SPEAKER_01

I think that's like our ninth certified band. What was your favorite band? Facebook. Can you remember like back? What's your favorite band that we have actually featured?

SPEAKER_00

I don't like it when people ask me one favorite. I don't have one.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it's not like one favorite, but like what's the the most standing out? Like, you're just like, oh my goodness, Jesse. I don't have just one. Really? Because they're that good. Yes. Are you kidding me? I didn't, I'm doing a good job. Yes. I'm doing a good job.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I love Dancing with Ghosts, I love Fareza, I love Apes on a Rocket. There's there's just so many more. Uh, the one that we just did, the Ghost Lights. Uh so good, wasn't it? So good. Like, we have featured some really good bands. Jesse already has a playlist uh compiled from our season one. So we you can go and check that out on Spotify.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And we will compile another one for season two, which will come to a close. We're getting close. Yeah. In about 13 episodes.

SPEAKER_01

We have supported other companies that actually support uh uh uh bands. So it's like uh we hooked up with like Curtain Call Records and they had a bunch of bands. You can check out some of that stuff exclusively. I have another exclusive thing going on. There was a a group in New York that we hooked up with, all of the Jiggy Juice. Remember her? Yeah, that was so good.

SPEAKER_00

Keep talking. I'm gonna go grab my little baggie so you can choose next week's game.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I get to pick up I get to pick the next episode. But uh yeah, that's that's my whole thing. Like I get to I get to ride Lindsay's wave. And speaking of wave, Aurora Wave is doing very well. Check out that group. And um while while she is destroying me, I each week I get to reach out to other groups and artists and share their music. And that's that's exciting. And I'm I'm so glad that they're just like, hey, you know, you can share our stuff, it doesn't matter. Um, there has been a couple little uh record label situations that I'm not sure I want to tie into yet, but uh big things are on the way. I think season three is gonna be our biggest season. We're closing out season two now.

SPEAKER_00

Shaking.

SPEAKER_01

We just had our second, our

Music Picks Playlists And Season Plans

SPEAKER_01

second biggest month. Yes, that was really good.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. Thank you so much for y'all that have been with us since the beginning. Yeah, and thank you guys for if you're brand new here. So this is women's or female cases. Uh Jesse's gonna draw one out of the bag.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, unfortunately, true crime hasn't ever gone away. And uh the the the the content and material just is just so vast, isn't it? Even on our own town, right here. I know it's so vast. You got two. I got two. I'm gonna go. Give me one. Patty Hearst.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. That one may be a two-parter. Really? Maybe. We'll see. We'll see what happens. Can we have a two-parter in July? If you guys are familiar with the Patty Hearst case, uh stay tuned. Stay tuned. Oh my god. I don't know. This is a few. Like, I'm the one that put these in here, and I'm like, fuck. Patty Hearst. That's a monster. That's a monster. Yeah. Really? You've never heard of Patty Hearst? No. Never. No. Oh, we get to go back in time.

SPEAKER_01

Don't don't Hargrave told me to call an ambulance or a Hearst.

SPEAKER_00

We got a frog singing out there.

SPEAKER_01

I've seen a fly go by.

SPEAKER_00

We're definitely in Mary.

SPEAKER_01

I'm in the kitchen right now and I'm sweating because I don't know. Maybe it's the crab bowl. Yeah, so we've got the well, we're not doing local ball. We got a shrimp boil over there on the stove. I don't really care about crab, really. But anyhow, yeah, we're having a great time doing this podcast. Uh thank you guys so much for supporting all the stuff, right? And well, hold on.

SPEAKER_00

We gotta we're gonna finish up about Sarah real quick. So, what happened to Sarah caused outrage, women. Uh, there was protests everywhere. Women deserve to feel safe. And what sucks is go back and listen to our episode um about the diabolical answers that they were given. Yeah, it very keep holding this pencil. It makes it's like a eye on it.

SPEAKER_01

Let's let's let's let's uh for safety reasons we're gonna put people over here, out of her reach, all the way over there in London.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh, Patty Hearst. I'm sorry. But anyway, so I don't know. Um, and also make sure you check out our coverage for the very powerful impact statement that Sarah's mother read aloud in open court to Wayne Cousins, and he is serving life as he should. Um, and you know, I I I mean, honestly, I feel horrible for Sarah's family. I feel horrible for Wayne's family because they had no idea he was married with two kids.

SPEAKER_01

And the lack of trust that they put into somebody in that kind of position.

SPEAKER_00

It was a 48-year-old police officer.

SPEAKER_01

He should not have ever done anything like this. Um, they should have there was many, many signs, and more things came up in the conviction that came to light that should have been.

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's what I was uh told Jesse in the episode. If he had just been uh simply charged with

Next Case Reveal Patty Hearst

SPEAKER_00

the indecent exposure incidences, if he had gotten anything, I mean he would have been suspended, I mean he would have no longer been a police officer.

SPEAKER_01

Suspend him, put his ass in check, and straighten his ass up to where he changes his his thought process a little bit, you know. I mean, there's so many things that happen in the salad where somebody has has thoughts and and weird, disgusting habits that they need to break, you know?

SPEAKER_00

And thoughts and and uh fantasies and things like that. Like so much, so much the machine. And innocent people get just caught up in the in the crossfire with these sick people, and it happens day after day after day, and I hate it so much. Yeah, I hate it. So that's why we continue to talk about this because maybe, just maybe, it's made me more aware. It's made me more aware. I carry mace on me just walking around my neighborhood, and I live in a decently safe neighborhood, but that you never know. Which is weird because there's woods, there's and the it and there's there's things.

SPEAKER_01

Our own our own hood in our neighborhood in Lake City, you kind of feel a little uh, but when we went to New York City, we didn't really feel that. I mean, we we stayed in the we stayed on track in the areas. There was one little spot in Chinatown.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we didn't go off too far from the bus route and the and and all the things. So we uh we all had mace on us in New York City, but never felt the need to use it. But I mean, me as you know, a female walking by myself, I I keep it on me now, and I'm never probably gonna be without it anymore.

SPEAKER_01

It's wild to me because you said that there's countries where you can't even have mace.

SPEAKER_00

UK, where this where Sarah Everrow, you cannot even have it on your man.

SPEAKER_01

Come on, dude. Some pepper spray, bro. Pour a little milk on your eyes afterwards, but you just got checked. You know what I'm saying? You're a criminal, you're trying to accost somebody or do something crazy, right? And do something violent or whatever. Squirt, squirt, see you later, right? And and then you're you're you're back to being safe. Like you can you can get away, right? I mean, it's it's unlethal. It's it it counts. It you've got to have some kind of form of protection in humanity, especially as a female walking anywhere, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I was saying I would have never known that had I not covered, you know, covered and did research on this case. Like you just never know what's going on in different parts of the world. And we just all need to be aware of each other. Yeah, we all need to be aware of.

Women’s Safety And Self Defense Limits

SPEAKER_00

Each other's safety and especially ourselves. And I just I I feel terrible. Like, what can they do so they can feel safe? Because I mean, it is especially oh, when a police officer did this to somebody who was just walking home from her friend's house.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. I agree, Lindsay.

SPEAKER_00

It's just it's it's absolutely terrible.

SPEAKER_01

And she should at least had like well, there was nothing she could have. She was just a good person. There was nothing that you can you can come up with for a good person that's just gonna follow the law all the way to what happened. You know, that really is just a turmoil spot where you feel like you're just bound up and you can't get out. Lindsay told that story, and I'm just like, you keep chaining me up, Lindsay. I can't get out. And you're just like, no, but there's more. There's more. And then there's all the SA stuff and all the things that happen in the world.

SPEAKER_00

TikTok is falling. Oh let me go, let me go pick you guys up real quick. We're about to sign off, but yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We'll let the TikTok roll for a little bit longer. But yeah, I have a new little setup going on here, and I'm trying things. I don't know.

unknown

Oh, oh.

SPEAKER_01

Don't break it, don't break it.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's it's trying to fall down. There we go. There we go. Hey, we're back. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Will it stay? It looks like it's creeping.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, we're gonna we're gonna wrap it up. We're gonna sign off though. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, we got new gear. We're just trying new things out. But yeah, that was just it was a bad, it was a bad situation that she couldn't get out of.

SPEAKER_00

No. So and so with that being said, we do please ask of you guys to go check out our full episode.

Where To Find And Support Us

SPEAKER_00

Uh, I work really hard on the research. Jesse, you know, he plugs the bands. We're very, you know, we're very proud of our little work. Well, our little project we're putting out into the world. And so our main website is drinkabout something.sight. We are drinkabout something on Instagram, drinkaboutsomething pod at gmail.com, where we on YouTube.

SPEAKER_01

Gen Z, J-N-D-S-E-Y.

SPEAKER_00

And then on TikTok where we do sporadic lives. You're here. Share us. Yes. Yes. We are uh drinkabout something pod underscore Lindsay, because it is my account. And we got like this dual uh phone holder thing. So maybe next week we'll do both of our phones.

SPEAKER_01

We could. Do both of our I could do like the F B thing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That would be cool. I could do the FBI.

SPEAKER_00

Well, Instagram. Instagram.

SPEAKER_01

We're too.

SPEAKER_00

FB is for boomers. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Well, but I I mean a lot. I mean, we'll probably need to do a little bit of FB because all of my boomer people are still on FB.

SPEAKER_00

But it but you can set your Instagram up to go to FB. So you yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Some boomers too. I think it probably already does because I did post.

SPEAKER_00

I say mine does. Mine does. My Instagram goes straight to Facebook.

SPEAKER_01

Let's do that, Lindsay. I'm just thinking about it. But you know what's that?

SPEAKER_00

But you can't do Facebook to Instagram, so it's better to do Instagram to Facebook.

SPEAKER_01

I think I'm already there because I posted something and it went to bing bang

Next Drops And Sign Off

SPEAKER_01

boom. Yeah. Bam.

SPEAKER_00

But, anyways, we're gonna sign off here. We're gonna eat some dinner. We're gonna get some sleep so we can get ready for festivities. But you guys, okay, so this coming up Friday is uh Oscar Pistorius. And then after that, we will be covering Patty Hearst.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not ready, but yes, let's do this. Y'all have a great weekend. Be safe, and we love you so much.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I gotta get over here before I say it. Bye.
