EPISODE 99: Stephen Griffiths deserves no killer title
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
He didn’t just fantasize about being a serial killer. He said it out loud, chased the identity, studied the psychology, and then acted on it in the most brutal way. We’re closing Season Two with the case of Stephen Griffiths, also known as the “Crossbow Cannibal,” and it’s the kind of story that leaves you asking how many warning signs a system can ignore before the outcome becomes inevitable.
We trace Griffiths from early violence and fixation on infamous killers into a life that looked “smart” on paper, with psychology and criminology studies, while his private behavior spiraled into weapons obsession, stalking, coercive control, and cruelty. Then Bradford starts seeing women disappear, and the case turns on chilling breaks: a phone left behind, a video discovered in the worst possible way, and surveillance footage that captures the moment everything collapses around him. If you’ve searched for “Stephen Griffiths Bradford murders,” “UK true crime podcast,” or “Crossbow Cannibal CCTV,” we lay out the timeline clearly and talk through what the evidence actually shows.
Most importantly, we keep the spotlight where it belongs: on Susan Rushworth, Shelly Armitage, and Suzanne Blameers as real people with families, histories, and attempts to rebuild their lives. We talk about how sex workers get targeted because predators assume nobody will care, and we push back hard on the culture that turns killers into icons. To cleanse the palate after a heavy case, Jesse closes with a wild, fun band pick: Texas Toast Chainsaw Massacre.
If you want more victim-centered true crime with honest reactions and real conversation, follow, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more listeners can find us. What hit you hardest about this case, the missed warnings or the evidence that finally stopped him?

Fired-Up Cold Open
SPEAKER_03Hey Jesse.
SPEAKER_02Hello, Miss Lindsay.
SPEAKER_03I don't know about you. But between our story last week and the documentary about Micah Miller, I am ready to burn it all down.
SPEAKER_02Aren't both of those like so stupid similar? Fuck.
SPEAKER_03I know.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. If you haven't listened to our last one, our last podcast on the right. Yeah. In Gen Z Chestertonfieldville. It's so similar to what's poppy right now. Wow. So we're gonna cover that shit later later. We'll come back.
SPEAKER_03I'll know about later later. I'm um You're fired up still? I'm fired up. I'm gonna say about 10 more episodes. Yeah. I'm kind of like fucked off right now. I just dumb. We were mad. We were mad for three nights in a row.
SPEAKER_02When we watch these things, it's late at night and I'm laying in bed and I'm fighting the air. And me and Lindsay are just like kicking the ass of all the oxygen around us. That's what we do.
SPEAKER_03Shooting, I was shooting birds at the TV. Yeah, you fucking constantly fucking hate.
SPEAKER_02And they kept JP Miller his ass on stage.
SPEAKER_03That made me madder. And I think that was the point of the editing for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and that should be completely blown up right now, viral as fuck. If you haven't checked out the JP Miller thing, check it out. And if you haven't checked out our shit, check it out. And happy fucking Friday. Everyone, here we go. We're finna close off season number two. It's happening. She just helped out with a baby shower earlier today. She was total fucking like Targaryen in that bitch. No, no, no. Not even Targaryen. No, you were way cooler than that. You were like, you were a Spartan. Dude, you're like Spartan Stark. Starkarian. Starkarian? Stark Arton. That's what you are. No, I tried to match your energy there. Like I had to, I mean, it's fucking stupid hot. If you have a baby shower this time of year outside, you better have a pool. Or a slipping slide. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Slipping slides. We need some super slipping slides for some super slippies for some slipper slippy fun. Everybody in a bathing suit. That way we can get super wet and we can have fun and be cooled off. Yeah, that's what we need to do, super duper.
SPEAKER_03Hello.
Welcome, Drinks, And What We Do
SPEAKER_03Hello, listeners, and welcome to the Drink About Something podcast, where we talk about true crime. We have a couple of drinks. And then at the end of the episode, Jesse plugs a really cool, awesome, upcoming band that we need to give all of our attention to. And speaking of drinks, Jesse, what you got in your cup today?
SPEAKER_02This is a white claw, neutral lime. And I have other shit in my read that again. White claw natural. Not neutral. Natural. That's my dyslexia. Leave me alone. And then uh in my Gen Z under his eye, House Gen Z type cup that I have made, I have fashioned in the Game of Thrones type of fucking handmaid's tail. Yeah. Yeah, we've talked about it before. Yeah, dude. I'm geeking it. You can tell which one. This is gonna be one of those, Lindsay. And you said that I'm just gonna be in awe. That's what you told me about this fucking episode.
SPEAKER_03I said in shock.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, I'm gonna be like, oh my god, like the whole time, like mouth open, just so she has a lot to fire about. What are you drinking over there, Lindsay?
SPEAKER_03I've got a double pineapple vista bay with some tropical Celsius.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's in mind too, some of that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we we're splitting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So we're matching each other's energy today, and I think that uh yeah, you've definitely kicked some ass, and we oh, you've kicked ass too. Well, you know. Absolutely. Thank you for saying, and I'm just not ready to be destroyed by you, but you're gonna fucking do it anyway.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because if you have a party outside in Florida, it's in especially in the summer, it's it's gonna rain.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_03At some point. So yeah, we we did all the things. Die, dude.
SPEAKER_02Like literally, somebody almost died. Yeah, it was that hot. I'm walking around with water bottles trying to cool people off. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03We uh we keep frozen ones in our cooler just for the because we're seasoned in outdoor events, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, we're ready. I think I'm more like an Everglades type seasoning. Yeah. I feel like that's a Florida type seasoning that we need to stick with, yeah. So get on that.
What Made Us Feel Old
SPEAKER_02And Lindsay, what made you feel old this week? Oh, bitch. I started it. My turn.
SPEAKER_03Well, it was my best friend's daughter's baby shower today. I have known that little girl since she was two years old, and she's having a baby.
SPEAKER_02Swole up, so beautiful, so beautiful, so vibrant, so young, so new. And I felt like an old shit, dude, because I'm trying to help out all these other mothers that are hanging out. I'm like, let me play with your kid because they're crying and whining and stuff. Let me give them some attention. Yeah. Here, take this bottle of water and pour it on them a little bit in certain spots, like their wrist or whatever, to cool them down. And I'm like, I'm attentive in an old-fashioned type way, too. So I feel you.
SPEAKER_03Keep these babies cold off.
SPEAKER_02You said something else about something that was on TV the other day, yours or yesterday. You said, don't mention that. What the fuck was it? Oh you was like, that's my old. Whenever you seen something on TV last night.
SPEAKER_03We were watching Hocus Pocus. It was something about that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And you're like, that's my old. Yeah, you said something that no, it's Sesame Street 50.
SPEAKER_0350 year anniversary. And I think I think that that was like I think that was like two years ago.
SPEAKER_02We didn't know.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_02We need to get up on that. We had grandparents.
SPEAKER_03It was so when was S NL's 50? They started the same year. So then 75?
SPEAKER_02The same year. SNL's 50 and Sesame Street's 50 is the both 50s. Yeah. Right then.
SPEAKER_03So that was last year. So we're only a year behind. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Really makes you feel bad though, Lindsay. We'll see the 75, but that's and I'm I don't have my phone with me.
SPEAKER_03I'm not Googling. It's on charge.
SPEAKER_02So we'll make it to the sound. But we won't make it any further than that. I hope they keep going.
SPEAKER_03They better.
SPEAKER_02Forever.
SPEAKER_03I mean, you're at 50 to keep to keep that shit rolling. What made you feel old this week?
SPEAKER_02Me?
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02Fucking hell, dude. So I have cheat sheets that are at my work that are like for bearings and different seals and ratios and things that you do as far as axle repair on big trucks and things, because that's what I do. And I made that cheat sheet, and the people that walk up to it and use it are younger than the cheat sheet. Oh my god. Yeah, sorry, but I thought about that whenever that my little Latin boy and drag was over there, and I was like, listen here, little Latin boy and drag, because he's so cool and I like to fuck with him a little bit. And we're just we're goofing, right? It's shop talk. And he's standing in front of him like that.
SPEAKER_03Well, uh, for context, context clarity. So that is what he is referring to a co-worker, and Latin boy and drag is from Tu Wong Fu. Thank you for everything, Julie Newmar. If you haven't watched that movie, go do it yesterday.
SPEAKER_02Which I didn't get into that shop talk thing until his first day on the job, he leaned over and handed me a work order through my window, and he's like, Here you go, sweetie. And I was like, It's on. It's on, dude.
SPEAKER_03When I tell y'all that men that work together, men that work together are it's it's a crazy concept.
SPEAKER_02It's funny, it's a shock and all, and we try to disgust each other, you know, but it's all in good fun.
SPEAKER_03I have heard Jesse talk to um co-work male co-workers dirtier than he's talked to me. So we'll just put it that way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I I send her pictures of me and my bestie at work all the time. Yeah, Alejandro is one of my best friends, dude.
SPEAKER_03Yes, we all have a work bestie.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that is literally like I've sat next to uh another man for over 23 years. We're not besties though, but we're we get along really well. But me and Alex, dude, we get along so well, and he's just a goof booter like me. And I don't know why. We just I don't know. I I'm just so attached to cultural type people too. You are I am 100%. Yeah, his brother wants me to live in the Yucatan with him. He's like, let's retire together. Do you just move on down here?
SPEAKER_03Let's go.
SPEAKER_02Gotta move to the Yucatan. Let's do it. Anyhow, Lindsay, you have stories.
Stephen Griffiths Enters The Story
SPEAKER_03I do. All right, so today we are drinking about Stephen Sean Griffiths. It's not Griffiths, it's Griffiths. It's a lot on the mouth. It's a lot of Fs and S. And he was born on December 24th, 1969, to Stephen Sr. and Moira. Griffiths. Moira! Not not Mara. Moira.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03Like from Hook. And from because you said Myra.
SPEAKER_02I said Mora.
SPEAKER_03It's not Mora. It's Moira. You have to say it right. Mo. Now I can't tell. Do it. Moira.
SPEAKER_02So whenever he was. So there's an eye in there. He was when he landed on the boat and he poked his finger through the little hole and ripped it open and he yelled her name. That's why I said that.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Yes. And then also, of course, the great Catherine O'Hara played Moira Rose in Chitz Creek.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03But I don't know really much about Moira Griffiths. Uh, but they were born in or they lived in Deesbury in West Yorkshire. Yorkshire. We're in Yorkshire. Here we go.
SPEAKER_02Evi to the motherfucking gum, yes.
SPEAKER_03He's one of those Yorkshire boys. If you say E by Gum, he'll come down here and he'll talk to us, mate. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You're one. You're in the crowd then. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh so we were. We thought we were at uh the stage for Butcher Babies one year at Rockville, and we were actually at the stage for asking Alexandria, and it was actually fucking amazing. And we were right next to a lady from Yorkshire, and her she had a never-ending cigarette. And with a nine-foot ash, the benches and hedges with all the hedges all and she told us if we said e-bargum, they would come down and talk to us, but they never did. Dan Danny said, Yeah, y'all are good. But we were almost on the rail for that show.
SPEAKER_02He moved in Jacksonville. I talked to him not too long ago. He's a cool cat.
SPEAKER_03He's so fucking cool.
SPEAKER_02Yes. And I love singing.
SPEAKER_03I hope they're back at Rockville next year. Yeah.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_03Um, it can't uh I woke up to one of their songs because I have like multiple playlists on my alarms, and uh asking Alexandria into the fire came on the other morning, and I was like, just laying there still night, not not all the way a week, uh awake. A week. A week. Yeah, not all the way a week. I walk into the fire. Okay, so Stephen Sr., he worked for a frozen food company, and Moira was a telephone operator. He had a younger sister named Caroline and a younger brother named Philip. It's said that Steven was a bit old. He was a bit old, didn't he? Uh, as a child. And when his parents separated, he became this was at 13, he became even more odd.
SPEAKER_02Even more Eva Gum.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You're gonna say be saying Eva Gum a whole lot.
SPEAKER_02So strap in, yes.
SPEAKER_03Now his mother was granted full custody in the divorce, and she didn't really take the divorce well. Uh, it's like she became a whole different person, and she became a con artist and then a sex worker, and I think she was actually like conning with sex, you know what I mean? And it's said by neighbors that she would have relations in the garden on their property. Yeah. And Steven would watch. Oh, salad. Yeah, here we go. And apparently he would develop a deep hate for women and sex workers as a result of watching his mother.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's just my mom. What the fuck are you doing, dude? Like I'm a little child here and I'm watching my mom getting taken advantage of, but she's doing it willfully. Right.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Why would you have your kid out there?
SPEAKER_03First of all, why are you doing it in the garden?
SPEAKER_02In the garden of Eden, right there. It's not cool. No.
SPEAKER_03Now, Steven would become obsessed with serial killers like Jack the Ripper and the Yorkshire Ripper, which we haven't talked about either one of those yet, because that's a lot. Those are gonna be big cases later on down the road.
SPEAKER_02Some of that's actually came back to light soon. Yeah. Not that long ago, right? Fuck.
SPEAKER_03Well, and he would say publicly that he wanted to become a serial killer himself. In the same garden where his mother would entertain gentleman callers, he would shoot birds. And I'm not talking about middle finger. He would shoot actual birds out of the trees, and then by hand, he would rip them apart and dissect them. He would write messages on the bathroom walls of his school, and these messages would be talking about other females killing other females. And one was a teacher. Now, this was a school that his parents paid really good money to send him to. It was Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Wakefield. And at 16, he decided to drop out. Now, at that point, he would drift around and he would have a few different jobs. But you know, it all goes in this direction. Uh, he would start shoplifting, and then he was caught by a manager at a supermarket one day, shoplifting. And when the manager confronts him, Steven pulls out a knife and slashes the manager's face.
SPEAKER_02Fucking hell.
SPEAKER_03His face.
SPEAKER_02So we're full blown. We're full blown. We're going full bowl right here.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And this resulted in the manager needing about 19 stitches. And for that, Steven, he will go to prison for three years. This is where he starts telling people that he wanted to become a serial killer. This was his live documentation.
SPEAKER_02There was no turning point. This guy has just latched on to being full-blown horrific criminal at all cost. As soon as I'm out, I'm going right the fuck back. And I'm gonna hurry up and get out, right?
SPEAKER_03Well, uh, even though he talked about this shit all the time, uh, he wasn't psychologically evaluated at this point in this prison term, okay? And he only served half of his time because of good behavior. Like, what the fuck? And he was released in 1980 uh 1989 on probation, and he's now 19 years old. So he's only 19 years old. Shit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. This is not gonna be good. No, at all.
SPEAKER_03He violates his probation because he was caught with an air rifle and then goes back to prison, and then after that term, he gets out in 1991. Now, like I say, he's still talking about becoming a serial killer, and one of the guards that are is hearing him talk about this all the time, they actually wrote the fucking governor and he still gets released. Right. Right, right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. That ain't good enough. Come on, dude.
SPEAKER_03Well, one day when he is out and about, he just uh he comes upon a group of teenage girls minding their own fucking business and laughing amongst themselves. And because Steve uh people like Steven think that everything is about them, he thinks that they are laughing at him and he just goes up and puts a knife to one of the girls' throats and he goes back to prison for another two more years. This time they do evaluate him, and he is diagnosed as a schizoid psychopath. Now, this diagnosis is not recognized anymore in modern medicine, but previously this diagnosis would be described as a person who showed a mix of emotional detachment, social isolation, and erotic or um erratic, not erotic, erratic or cold behavior. And that made me think of Dexter.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03They just they don't feel no, no.
SPEAKER_02He there is nothing that's never erratic feel is is being able to act on those actions.
SPEAKER_03Well, and well, Dexter's character, he would never be erratic. He wasn't like um oh, he got fired up while he was doing the actual while he but not in public crowds. No, in in he only did it during his his his ritual, his killing sessions.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. He was hot dog water all day long. And then he turned into the chocolate starfish later on.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so now he has this diagnosis. He's obsessed with serial
Violence, Prison, And A Dark Fixation
SPEAKER_03killers, so he decides to go back to school and get a degree in psychology. He wants to know why he is the way that he is and why serial killers are the the way that they are, which puts him in like respectable circles because he is actually seeking out something like that.
SPEAKER_02And there's people that probably come to him because he is getting that kind of degree, right?
SPEAKER_03Well, and I mean and briefly, me just researching this, admired that acknowledgement. Like, okay, he's aware of himself and he wants some understanding about it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but then it's the only turning point that could have turned right there was him coming to a full conclusion that is with himself that could turn into something positive. But of course, I don't fucking think so, Lindsay. Right. But he's a he's around circles of people that are respecting him for what he's doing, and he's he's having conversations that are related to him. But still socially isolated. Yeah, but he's still in school and there's people around him doing things, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, because I mean he we're gonna talk about it in a minute. He goes on to have you know some relationships. So while he's in school, he starts to dress very dark, very goth. He wore trench coats, he grew his hair out and slicked it back, and he wore dark sunglasses all of the time, kind of like Duran Duranish, a little bit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh shit.
SPEAKER_03He also became a lizard dad. Uh he became a lizard dad to huge three-foot lizards, and he would take his lizards for walks on leashes or in backpacks to trips to the club.
SPEAKER_02So, I mean, socially though, if he's walking around and doing things, it's getting him attention. He's kind of a little bit of attention. It's an attractant, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Right. This would gain him the reputation as the lizard man. Not to be confused with the lizard king Jim Morrison from the doors.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yes, we have that on our wall.
SPEAKER_03Yes, we do. But the lizard man. I actually won a contest for that. I told you that, right?
SPEAKER_02You did?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And that's why I bought that for you.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Uh um, I think it was Mo's put out a trivia question one day on their Facebook page and said, and it was the picture of a lizard with a crown on it. Who is this referring to? I'm like, Jim Morrison from the doors. Like, I said that immediately, and they mailed me the poster, and we have it on our wall. Fuck yeah.
SPEAKER_02Love me two times, babe.
SPEAKER_03I've won actually several radio trivia contests because I have like music autism a little bit. Like, I I remember facts that most people just kind of slide by. Not I won't, I don't want to say most people. Let me retract that. A lot of people in our area slide by. There we go.
SPEAKER_02For sure. You got it going on. LA Woman is my number one, by the way.
SPEAKER_03Well, because I become uh hyperfixated on bands and musicians that I really, really like, and I want to know everything about them, not psychotically. I just want to know, I want to know facts about them. I want to know what influenced them, where they got started, all the things. So sometimes in my research, because I do research for this, I hyperfixate on little Silas does it too, like the deep dive factory.
SPEAKER_02He's worse than me. Thanks. He's just so much like you, though, in a lot of aspects. I love it though. What's your favorite Doors song?
SPEAKER_03People are strange.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yours is LA Woman. I already know. Yours is LA Woman. All right. But people are strange, but I also I I love LA Woman. I love um Light My Fire. What's that other one that I really, really like that I can't think of right now?
SPEAKER_02The Highway Road song? No, I like the older Doors stuff too, though.
SPEAKER_03I'll think about it in a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, whatever. Back at it.
SPEAKER_03So now Steven hadn't really dated before, and it said that he had never really wanted to. And I I'm gonna refer to Dexter again because I know that that's a show. It's not a real life person. But he also knew that he had to at some point to be socially acceptable. Okay. So he learned that dating was something that you needed to do to be normal. So he started dating. Uh, and the first woman's name was Lee. Now, Lee liked Steven's aesthetic and thought he was pretty cool with his darkness and his lizards. But when she goes to his house for the first time, or his flat, she notices that above his bed. He has an enormous three foot picture of himself. Come on, man. And she was like, You're a bit full of yourself, aren't you, mate? E by gum. Yeah. Yeah, that's what she said entering the room. E by gum. I wanted to. What the fuck? Yeah, I'm like, of yourself. And I always, I always like when I see somebody's screensaver is like themselves, I'm like, that's weird, dog. That's that's a little weird. Like it's not your part. Like if it's you and your partner or you and your kid, that's a different story, but just you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I find that a bit odd. A bit old. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And she I'm thinking now. I'm just like, this is yeah, creepville right here.
SPEAKER_03Well, Lee said that she would wake up to Steven just staring at her. Like, like propped up on the elbow, not like, oh, you're so beautiful when you're asleep. He was like propped up elbow, just like staring into her soul.
SPEAKER_02Deep focus. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Because like you've watched me when I'm asleep. I've watched you when you're asleep, and that's aw and cute, but like staring into your soul, propped up on a pillow, just and when I post pictures about this guy, you'll see what I'm talking about. Like, if you caught him staring at you, I'd be like, oh, yeah, what's happening? So this relationship only lasted about eight months, and Lee decided that he was just a bit too odd for her, and she broke up with him. And he decides to mail her a copy of a book about the son of Sam serial killer. Like he actually doesn't mail it to mail it to her. I'm sorry. He goes and puts it straight into her mail slot, like in the door.
SPEAKER_02I wrote a rap song about Son of Sam one time. Really?
SPEAKER_03Yes. Oh, that's cool.
unknownI did.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna get Jesse to record that. We'll put it out later date.
SPEAKER_02That'll be my closing song for this whole episode.
SPEAKER_03Well, he moves on and he meets another woman named Zeta through uh, it was like a lonely hearts column in the newspaper. And children, if you don't know what that is, that is that was pre-tender, you know? That was the tender of the the old days or plenty fish, whatever. You would put your business out there in a newspaper column and people would respond back, or vice versa.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we've talked about that a few times.
SPEAKER_03We have, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Now the thing that she that Zetta found strange about Steven was that he slept with cotton in his ears every night because he was afraid of bugs getting in there. You'll notice that each one will find something very odd. Yeah. Like a different odd thing. Now, Steven for some reason lied to Zetta and said that he lived with his parents, but he didn't. He lived alone in the flat with the three-foot poster of himself up on the wall. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So strange.
SPEAKER_03So he was always staying at her place. And one day he forgot about his lie and she discovered that he did live alone. And she was like, uh, what? Can I come over? What the fuck? And he reluctantly let her come visit. And pretty much everything in his house is serial killer memorabilia, a shit ton of weapons, because that was his other obsession, okay? Like he had knives, samurai swords, ninja stars, crossbows, just everywhere, on the walls, on the floor, in the kitchen, everywhere. I mean, yeah, don't go ninja. Nobody don't need ninja. Don't. And this scared the shit out of uh Zeta. And she made an excuse to leave that night, like she felt ill, and she probably actually did feel ill. I'm out. And she ended the relationship the next day. Yeah. So this was after two years. He lied to her for two years about where he lives.
SPEAKER_02And everything was Gucci until she got to the flat.
SPEAKER_03Jesse, if I dated you for more than a month and did not we're checking out our livability.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So that's that's what's uh crazy to me about a lot of these cases that I research is how different. Even in America, you go down the road to Jacksonville, somebody dates differently than we do here in a small town. Like you and I basically moved in with each other after like two days. Literally.
SPEAKER_02I didn't want to leave. It was cool. Your bed was really comfortable. Sorry, but it was.
SPEAKER_03But I mean, we talked for a month prior to meeting each other, but and and but I mean it's it's no in other towns that would never happen.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Like there's people that live that date each other for years and don't live together.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they yeah. So it's it's different in everywhere, really. I mean, it it is it is just different between different people, period, you know? It is.
SPEAKER_03And yeah, because I I'm always like, wow, they waited that long before they lived together. Because usually when you've dated for some somebody for a long time, and that we would just discuss this on the way home from our baby shower or the baby shower we attended, sometimes it's not a good thing. Like if you don't live with somebody prior to marriage, sometimes the marriage will fail immediately. Yeah. Because you need to you don't know who that person is, so you live with them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you don't want to buy a broke-down ass car. You want to test drive that bitch first. Always. I'm sorry, but do it.
SPEAKER_03Well, and you also want to know how it's gonna be coexisting with another human, you know? Yeah, because sometimes it just don't work out. We have surprise surprise.
SPEAKER_02A lot of shit on that lately. Yeah, you don't want to hang on to that for the next
Relationships That Reveal Escalation
SPEAKER_02the rest of your life, you know?
SPEAKER_03So now we are up to the year 2000. Steven is 20 years old and he starts dating a woman named Kathy, who had been a prison guard, and she lived on her own with two doggies. Now, her red flag about Steven was that he was like a stage three clinger, which is weird. Like I said, each one will have something different. He became very possessive of her to the point of him starting to hate her dogs because she showed them a lot of attention. And Steven didn't like that. And he wanted the dogs out of the picture. Now, Kathy, she was on antidepressants at the time. And it was when it was time for her to take her medication one day, Steven offered to grab it for her. Sweet, right? Wrong.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_03Uh, he gives her something different. I'm not really sure what it was, but it made her sick immediately. And she is feeling out of it, and she feels like she's gonna pass out. And while she's laying there sick as fuck, he's standing over her, laughing at her, and says, I mixed up your medicine and you're dying.
SPEAKER_02Fucking hell, Lindsay. Just when we thought that he had his shit together, and I mean, like, he hadn't done anything horrific to anybody at this point.
SPEAKER_03No, he just had weird quirks and obsessions.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. And he was trying to hide a lot of them, and then he was super clingy to the third one because he's lost the other two.
SPEAKER_03Now he's he's progressing. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Now he's turned it into a fucking milkshake of shit. Here we go.
SPEAKER_03Now she begs him to take her to the hospital, and he's like, nah. But somehow she gets herself there and they pump her stomach. So now when she gets discharged, she's gotta go home to this dude. And when she gets there, she sees that her dogs are gone. And Steven tells her, uh, somebody broke in and stole them, and they only stole the dogs. Like nothing else is gone. They just stole the dogs.
SPEAKER_02And by the way, everything's all good. Just come on in, right?
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Fuck. But a neighbor would later tell her that they saw Steven leave with the dogs at 3 a.m. the night she was in the hospital and came back without them. What a shit bag. While she was in the hospital where he had basically tried to kill her. He mixed up our medicine.
SPEAKER_02Well, what did she say? Like, she didn't say that this dude tried to kill me.
SPEAKER_03I don't understand. I don't understand. Come on. She ended up finding out that he just took them somewhere and left them. And Kathy never found her babies, but she didn't break up with him.
unknownFuck.
SPEAKER_03And I'm not trying to judge because I've been there, but hindsight is 2020, and I'm like, fuck, girl. Why didn't you get out? He just tried to kill you and he just got rid of your dog.
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah, us speaking on it right now wouldn't fucking matter because of how much technical weird twist and turns there is to this. And yeah, we've all been there and manipulated into some some fashion.
SPEAKER_03And you don't see it until later on. I mean, she was very much in love, she was blinded by love. Now that the dogs are out of the picture, he starts to get physically abusive. And it was like he knew that he couldn't do that if the dogs were there.
SPEAKER_02No, you ain't bought my ankle, you bastard. Well, I'm beating the shit out of her. Yeah. Yeah. Now he has you you fucking tur, dude. You e by God.
SPEAKER_03Well, he's he's like one of those that just like it starts progressing little by little with each person. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, I mean, the physical like high that he's getting is the addiction, right? Right. That's there he is, feeling like he's his true self when he's creating this horrific event. You know, and that's where he's at. Fuck.
SPEAKER_03Now, Kathy, she would she was um uh self-defense trained, and she would fight him back, which Steven actually got off on. And there was even an occasion where he stabbed her in the leg. And this all happened within a year, Jesse. This is all within one year.
SPEAKER_02I'm just picturing all this is fucked up. This is really fucked up. He's just enjoying it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Now Kathy did end up getting away and she moved him with her parents, but he would continue to harass her and stalk her for the next decade.
SPEAKER_02For sure. That was the perfect fucking high that he could fight with and almost kill and keep getting away with it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. She would move multiple times, change her number, get restraining orders, orders of protection, and he would always find her location and her new number. And then she even she got some cats, like personal cats to keep in the house. And then there were two, uh, there were a couple more that she was feeding, like that were like neighborhood cats. We've had a couple here, you know, they just they just show up, meowing. And she was feeding them. And one day he sent her a text that said, Your cats are dead. And he had killed the neighborhood cats, not her personal ones, but the neighbor ones that she was still attached to them. She was feeding them. Then he got a puppy from a pet store. He gave it Valium and tried to cut off its tail. He texted Kathy right away and was like, Can you please come help me? Because he knew that she would because she has this great love for animals. And she didn't end up taking that puppy and she took it to the vet. He ended up being okay, but what the fuck?
SPEAKER_02Trying to bait her on the Stephen. Yeah. Any means necessary to get back to that high.
SPEAKER_03Right. Okay, so by 2004, Steven gets his degree in psychology, and now he's going for a doctorate in criminology, which reminded me of Brian Koberger from the Idaho 4. That's what he was doing.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02Which still keeps him in those circles of respectability, you know?
SPEAKER_03Now he starts studying the history of homicides in Bradford, where he is living. That's where he's going to school and living. And he particularly became obsessed with dismemberment. Like, you know, the dismembering of the human body. Because I told you, like, when he was a kid, he was dismembering birds, like, and he just becomes his obsession with killing and hurt. It's just growing larger and larger.
SPEAKER_02And now he's starting to learn the whole science behind it. Science and the criminology part of twisting it to where he can get away with it. Here we go, right?
SPEAKER_03And he would make many visits to Wakeville prison. Like he would just walk around the perimeter. He just let I mean it is quite the um the structure. Have you seen it? I'll post pictures.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I haven't. But like he walks up there, he's like, These are my people, right?
SPEAKER_03Well, it was called uh Monster Mansion because there was a lot of murders that happened there. And he just, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Then MySpace comes about and he creates a profile on MySpace, I guess to like meet women, and his username would be Vin Pariah. Vin was like short for Steven, which I hate that you didn't give him this credit. That's kind of like nobody else like Steve is, but Vin. I mean, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02Quit quit putting out raids of light. It's about to get even worse. He just shot me with a beam of light of some bullshit. No, don't do it. Don't do it.
SPEAKER_03No, the pariah part's bullshit. But then, I mean, that's way cooler than Steve. I'll have to give it to me. I don't even know. I didn't deep dive into that.
SPEAKER_02Did you have a MySpace?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I had a MySpace. Uh, Slash.
SPEAKER_02That was yours?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So I found this picture and it was Slash holding the guitar. And the whole background is purple, which is my favorite color. And he's got, he just looked fucking badass purple background. So that was my background page. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Mine was like a gothic geary type steampunk gothic type thing. That's how it. And then uh Sideshow Bob, because I just got my dreads and my hair was like sticking way up and out. So I went by Sideshow Bob.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. All right, are you ready?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no. Buckle your seat belts. Don't start saying addresses and shit, fuck. Dates and shit. Yeah, you always do me like this, Lindsay.
Three Women Disappear In Bradford
SPEAKER_03In 2009, dang them.
SPEAKER_02Here we go.
SPEAKER_03Women would start disappearing in Bradford, where Stephen Griffiths, who aspired to be a serial killer, just happened to be living. The first one was Susan Rushworth. She was 43 at the time of her disappearance. She was born December 31st, 1965, to Barry and Christine Thompson, and the family was local to Bradford. At 17, Susan suffered a brain hemorrhage, resulting in her losing the ability to speak and move her right arm. But she did recover. She relearned how to talk. She relearned how to use her arm. And she went on to marry a man named David Rushworth. And they would have three kids together. In 1994, the couple got divorced and Susan went kind of wild. You know, it happens. And she started hanging out with a party crowd. And then she got into an abusive relationship with another man. This led to deep depression and an addiction to heroin. And the heroin addiction resulted in sex work to pay for her addiction. In 2009, she left the shitty boyfriend and her mom helped her get into a rehab. After rehab, she moved back in with her mom, and things seemed to be going very well. She was seeing her kids again, and now her grandkids, because uh two of her kids were grown, and she was getting her life back together. And then on June 22nd, she disappeared. And unfortunately, some thought she had gone back to using heroin and sex work, but her family knew better. Even when she had been deep into that lifestyle, she had always kept in touch with her family. And she had been clean for six weeks prior to her disappearance. And she had epilepsy, and her medication remained at her mom's along with all of her other stuff. So it wasn't like she just picked up and left and went on a binger somewhere. Right, right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this is this is off her natural form of things. Yes.
SPEAKER_03And she was also planning to meet a friend that day and never showed up. Her disappearance was reported and went out through the media to the masses with her description, and the area where she was last seen was thoroughly investigated, but nothing came of it. And at Christmas time, her kids were on TV begging for anyone to help find their mom. On April 26, 2010, a 31-year-old woman named Shelly Armitage disappeared. Shelly was born September 22nd, 1978, to Daryl and Gail Armitage, and they had lived in Shipley, which was very close to Bradford. She had been a happy, popular girl, and she went to an all-cat uh all-girls Catholic school. But then as she got older, she began to use drugs, which resulted in sex work as well, and also went to rehab. But she had gone to several. In fact, it was said that her parents had spent their life savings trying to help her beat her addiction.
SPEAKER_02Fuck. Put so much into them, just hope.
SPEAKER_03Yes, because they knew that she was not that person. She just something in life happened and she fell into it.
SPEAKER_02So right now, at this point, right now, you're building because I I don't know fuck shit about fuck, right? This is a serial killer case. Right?
SPEAKER_03What did I say he would aspire to be?
SPEAKER_02Oh my God. We haven't talked about one of these in a while.
SPEAKER_03Well, she had been arrested on one occasion when her and her boyfriend were driving drunk and then attacked the cops who uh who had pulled them over. I believe uh she was released on bail and was scheduled to appear in court in May, but she would never make that date. The last person to see her was another sex worker named Bridget. And Bridget was friends with Steven Griffiths. And she asked him if he had seen Shelly, and his response was, Don't worry, babe. She'll be okay. On May 22nd, 2010, a third woman named Suzanne Blameers disappeared. Fuck.
SPEAKER_02So here we go. We're adding more.
SPEAKER_03We're now at number three. This is serial killer.
SPEAKER_02Damn it.
SPEAKER_03Suzanne was 36 at the time of her disappearance and was born February 26, 1974, to Norman and Maria Blameers. She also attended a Catholic school and had a Catholic upbringing. And her dad was a successful car salesman who owned a few lots. She went to nursing school in Bradford, but her social life would kind of take priority over school, as she had been a very sheltered child, and she was in a whole new world. I can relate to that. I've been there and done that. In 1994, she married Simon McGuinness, and her father did not approve. In fact, he did not approve so much, he didn't attend her wedding.
SPEAKER_02Fuck. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Now Suzanne was still in school when she got married, but she still liked to party. And that would unfortunately get her kicked out of school. She would also become addicted to heroin and turn to sex work. She would separate from Simon in the late 90s and then became addicted to crack after dating an abusive pimp. Fuck.
SPEAKER_02So the pattern is set now. Yeah. Damn.
SPEAKER_03The day of her disappearance, she was hanging out with a friend and then was never seen again. As you can guess, Steven Griffiths was behind every single disappearance. Steven, the man who wanted to become a serial killer, decided that sex workers would become his victims. He picked up Shelly the night of her disappearance for transactional service. And then when she got to his flat, he shot her with one of his crossbows and recorded himself dismembering her body.
The Phone Video That Exposes Him
SPEAKER_02Fucking hell, Lindsay. Here we go.
SPEAKER_03This is this is too much, man. He then took public transportation to get rid of her body, but left his cell phone on the bus or the train. I'm not sure which one it was. And this cell phone would end up getting stolen and sold to a pawn shop. When the pawn shop owner was, you know, deep into the phone, going to clean it out, getting it ready to resale. He found the video.
SPEAKER_02Really? Here it is.
SPEAKER_03The video showed Shelly hogtied on a bed, and my sex slave was spray painted on her back. The video showed her dismemberment while Steven narrated it. He called himself a bloodbath artist and referred to Shelly as a model that was assisting him. Oh my god. I'm just my heart just skipped a beat just saying that. Oh my god. I know.
SPEAKER_02That just you visualize it. Right. That fully way deeper than Dexter type shit right there.
SPEAKER_03Well, yeah, because Dexter was vigilante. This guy is a sick fuck. This is a guy that Dexter would kill.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Steven is a guy. Yeah, Steven would be a good one. He would do it.
SPEAKER_02You know, militant, like stabbed through the heart. Yeah, the whole thing. Classic sheet everywhere. Yeah. This guy. Fuck.
SPEAKER_03I know my heart just started pounding like reading that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, to now to be just working in a pawn shop and you come across this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Could you fucking imagine? That's we've got more. Oh. No. Now, Suzanne's disappearance happened just a few days later. So he didn't have a very long cooling off period, okay? But the video. Of Shelly hadn't been discovered yet, or that may have saved her life. Now, Suzanne went by Amber while she was working, which uh was you know, because I was like trying to make like mental connections while I was researching this, because I was like, Suzan, Shelly, Suzanne, but Suzanne wasn't even Suzanne while she was working, she was Amber. So because I was like, maybe he had a thing with S's because he's also an S. Oh, you know what I mean? So I I think like that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Doing your uh deep dive here.
SPEAKER_03You've yeah, you're but like Suzanne went by Amber while she was working. Steven picked her up and took her back to his flat. He held her hostage for two days. Shit. Now his complex had cameras, and Suzanne was seen escaping his flat. But Steven shot her with the crossbow in the hallway of the complex on camera. He dragged her deceased body back into his flat. Twenty minutes later, he came out holding the crossbow and shot the camera a bird.
SPEAKER_02Like, fuck you. Yes, I'm way cooler than you.
SPEAKER_03This is on camera I can get away with it. You can look this up.
SPEAKER_02This just turned me on by doing this. That's what he's thinking.
SPEAKER_03He wanted this, was this was his dream. He's living out of his dream.
SPEAKER_02He's ready to actually get the staple of. He's ready to be like, this is gonna make me legendary.
CCTV Crossbow Attack And Arrest
SPEAKER_03Then he came back to the camera holding a drink and cheersed it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's that's exactly it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Now, of course, the manager of the building would see this footage and turned it into the police on Monday, May 24th, 2010. And then they put one, two, and three together and surrounded the building that same day. They busted down the door, and Steven said from another room, I'm in here. Come and get me.
SPEAKER_02I want to be a legend. Pretty much. Yeah. Because not everybody in the club's getting tipsy.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, shut up.
SPEAKER_02But he was. Yeah. He was like, dude, this is my walk of fame right now. This is my star on Hollywood Boulevard right now.
SPEAKER_03Now, after he was arrested, he would say on record that he was Osama bin Laden.
SPEAKER_02Oh shit. Come on.
SPEAKER_03So now the police know about Shelly and Suzanne's murders, but what about Susan? And Steven would actually tell the police that he had killed six women total and had eaten some of them.
SPEAKER_02Oh, because the Dahmer thing he was alive for and he watched all that shit too. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You gotta be able to do that. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I mean, he this is what he literally studied serial killers. Right.
SPEAKER_02Like, period. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And it was, it's so in the interview, like they said, is there more women? And he just held up six fingers. Yeah. Now, a lot of people think that that was just for attention because that's what Steven craved. But we only know about three.
SPEAKER_02Oh shit. Okay. So certifiably like three for sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, three he gets tried for. Okay. So they found the body of Suzanne, and the crossbow was still in her skull. And the rest of her body had been dismembered into around 80 pieces.
SPEAKER_02So the bolt was still in her skull. Like from the crossbow. Right, right, right, right. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Fuck. So Suzanne had been in a river, and the same river that Suzanne's remains were found in, they found Steven's weapons and the spine, only the spine of Shelly. Wow. Just the spine. Her her the rest of her remains have never been found. And Steven won't say where they are. And he did admit to the murder of Susan, and for her, he had used a hammer. That was his weapon of choice. And that. And he has never said where her remains were either, even after the family has begged and pleaded to be able to put Susan to rest.
SPEAKER_02That's the only best.
SPEAKER_03I gotta take a breath, man.
SPEAKER_02In the middle of all that, that's the only okay, closure type outcome that you can get in the middle of this.
SPEAKER_03Is knowing where she was and that you can put her to rest with a headstones.
SPEAKER_02That's all that you can get. That's that it which is very fucking small. That is very it's it's it's it's it's insignificant in the middle of it because of the human that created this fucking tragic debacle.
SPEAKER_03And it's like Well, the a lot of these were Catholic families, and they need that ritual. They need that ritual. Their belief is that we've got to put this person in a casket.
SPEAKER_02Into the yeah, back to earth.
SPEAKER_03Well, that was just like, you know, my my birth mother, she was cremated, but her husband was Catholic, and there was still a casket.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_03Period. They still buried that casket with part of her remains because of the Catholicism. You have to be returned back to the earth. Yes. And then the rest of her was scattered where she wanted to be scattered.
SPEAKER_02I mean, you know, long into the realization that no matter what, we're still returning back to earth either way. Right. Yeah. So, but still.
SPEAKER_03Well, I don't want anybody to kind of close a casket for me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. But though, yeah, we both want to be cremated. I don't give a fuck. I mean, whatever.
SPEAKER_03I want to be turned into a tree, some jewelry, scattering.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But damn, Lindsay, I know. This fucking thing. That's what we had.
SPEAKER_03I had to I had to segue for a minute. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, he said he's got his walk of fame now, right? And you're fixing to talk about that.
Trial, Fame Seeking, And Victims First
SPEAKER_03For his trial, he got the exact lawyer that had represented the Yorkshire Ripper. And during his trial, when he was asked to state his name for the record, he self-proclaims that he is the crossbow cannibal. Leave me alone right now. Well, like most serial killers, most serial killers are named by the police, investigators, or the media.
SPEAKER_02But he named He really wanted his star, didn't he? He's like, dude, no. We're going to Hollywood. I'm going to be famous. He got the attention that. I don't think I honestly, I think, okay, what we're doing, you know, this is very admirable. Like what we're we're sharing, horrific, documenting different real things, true crime, right? So I understand are conveying all of this, but we shouldn't give any of them any kind of fame. You know?
SPEAKER_03Well, that's why I even comp contemplated even covering him because he wanted the attention, but I'm covering this for the women.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03For the women that he fucking creeped out, tortured, stalked, and then killed. Yeah. And when you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_02When they found the bottom and tried to find their way back up, and then they tied in addiction and and all the the crazy things that's happened to them in their life, and they're going to sex work. And of course, that's always an easy target. We've talked about that. Right. We've we've we talked about Eileen and shit she did with sex work. So there's there's so many different sides of the spectrum that you can use sex work as for being a serial killer. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, and then men that kill sex workers, because we're going to talk about this more in the next season, they don't view these women as women that are cared about. No. But all of these women, that's why I went back to their background. They are real humans. They had families that cared about them. They just took a dark path. They fell into it. Circumstance happened. Shit happened. But they were people. They were women with children or in families that loved them.
SPEAKER_02They're not less than any other human being.
SPEAKER_03They are not less than any other human being.
SPEAKER_02And 90% of them want to come out of that. They want to.
SPEAKER_03And Susan, man, she's getting her fucking life together.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's not even really known why she ever got in a car with this fucker, like at all. Because she was clean. She had been clean for six weeks. And it's just, and he won't say shit.
SPEAKER_02Probably flashed some money at her. I was like, hey, here you go. You know what I'm saying? There was some kind of bait there, but still, like, that's a lot to take in as far as awareness. And that's what we're here to do, of course. But don't glorify any on any on any aspect, there is no serial killer you could ever glorify. Or, you know, make them some kind of icon. You know, we we we you know, Lindsay and I, we go to different hor horrific things, like we go to, you know, we go to um to be honest, certainly.
SPEAKER_03We watch movies and you know, we're fascinated with the salad. Yeah, we really are. Um, and it's not even like a happy go-lucky smiling fascination. I don't want anybody to ever get that mixed up. We are interested in how this person became the way they are.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, and we go to scared eyes here in a couple months or whatever. Next month, shit. Um, that is an infatuation with just the theatrical versions.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you know, we are theater fucking nerds. Like we love theat.
SPEAKER_02But we don't never, I don't, I don't think that anybody should ever glorify or think that there is some kind of iconic entity on physical true crime people that do things. You know what I'm saying? Like, because uh we've talked about this before, where there's people murderers and and things that have are in prison, and people still flock to that for that addiction, and that's very sick.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's just like, and we're gonna talk about it on in you know our hundredth one, you know, two and three episodes about Ted Bundy along.
SPEAKER_02So next week.
SPEAKER_03You're interested in the thought process and the psychology. Yeah, excuse. That's what I'm looking for.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're trying to come up with your own understanding into that weird psychosis.
SPEAKER_03Why? And I have been like this since I was a kid. Yeah. Like when I became obsessed with the Holocaust and Anne Frank, and I wanted to know why the fuck Hitler was the way he was. I didn't glorify him. Yeah, I wanted to know why he was the way he was. I didn't want to be him. Like we have covered people that were fascinated with him in the whole in a whole different spectrum.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_03Where I was like, why was he horrible? Why was he evil? What happened, what you know? So I deep dive Hitler when I was a young and like you know a lot of people do.
SPEAKER_02They flock to it because the the horrificness and then trying to have an understanding of that thought process.
SPEAKER_03But like the women that want to meet and be with and send money to criminals in prison because they think they're fucking hot, like fuck you. Respectful, disrespectfully. Okay. There we go.
SPEAKER_02That is that is where my whole conversation had was starting to. Yeah, just leave them the fuck alone and do not glorify it.
SPEAKER_03So unfortunately, Steven would get the attention that he sickly craved. His macabre dreams had become true. He was given a full life sentence, which is actually not common in the UK. And he got to go to his favorite prison, Wakefield, the Monster Mansion. These are my people. Well, later on, when his case was no longer talked about in the media, the inmates like mocked him and made fun of him and shit, and they were like, You're not famous anymore. And he attempted suicide. And he attempted many more times after that. Now he requested to be sent to a high security hospital, but that wish was not granted. And Wakefield is where he remains. As it happens in many, many cases, all of this may have been prevented early on when he talked about becoming a serial killer at an early age while he was in prison for other crimes.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. The governor should have listened to the fucking guard at the beginning. That was the breaking point. And then he started trying to solidify relationships to create this full-on fantasy of criminal activity.
SPEAKER_03He just he was just like, I mean, he literally committed murder on camera.
SPEAKER_02He had to do it. He thought his fame was going to be so big that we were going to be talking about this shit forever. And Lindsay, you just brought it back up, bitch. He brought it back up.
SPEAKER_03But like I said, this I wanted the women in this situation to get the recognition that they just got.
SPEAKER_02I'm just saying, like, let's just let the luster fade away over the state.
SPEAKER_03Well, once again, he obviously had mental health problems that were not treated properly. Yeah. Whatsoever.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And mental health awareness is something. I mean, I know most of y'all listening, I know Jesse knows nothing about this, but I'm going to throw the Lindsey Clancy out there, okay? That shit has been wild. Oh my God. More mental health. I know a lot of people it's divided. We're going to cover that later on in season three, so stay tuned for that. But mental health is still not treated correctly in 2026.
SPEAKER_02And you have to worry about it. And we're about to go into 27. Yeah, whatever subtle levels of that communication, because no matter what, people do always put those crumbs out. Any conversation, they do it.
SPEAKER_03And so And I know you probably don't know anything about this, but Lindsay Clancy's fucking was begging for help. Exactly. And she left all of her crumbs everywhere. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know what I mean? Whole ass fucking trails of breadcrumbs everywhere.
SPEAKER_03Yes. She, I mean, literally like fucking yellow brick roads.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yellow brick roads of trails. But that is the end of our coverage on this motherfucker. But May, Susan, Shelly, and Suzanne rest in peace, and I hope that their families can recover from these horrific crimes.
SPEAKER_02Oh shit, Lindsay. This motherfucker does not get a spell on Hollywood Boulevard. Never. Fucking. Thank you though. For letting me hear your bedtime story over here. I will not sleep again for two more weeks. No, she's fixing to throw so much more shit.
SPEAKER_03Oh God.
SPEAKER_02Oh, we're closing out, dude. Like season two. We've been sitting here doing this shit for two years.
SPEAKER_03200 weeks. Fack.
SPEAKER_02Damn it. Can I play
Music Break With Texas Toast Chainsaw Massacre
SPEAKER_02music yet?
SPEAKER_03Yes, what amazing band do you have to cleanse our palate today?
SPEAKER_02I have The Perfect. We're getting into spooky season, so I'm fixing to do Texas Toast Chainsaw Massacre. You don't fucking know, but I want to pet that dog, and we're fixing to play it. That's really cool. Yes, we are here.
SPEAKER_03That was fucking wild. I loved it so much. So this band is from Chicago. It's it's pop culture thrash metal. Yes. Loved it so much. And they were established in 2011, and they have a new album out called Super Turbo, which is available everywhere right now.
SPEAKER_02I want to pet the dog. I want to pet all the dogs.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god. That song was so fun.
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_03I loved it. It was it was a great palette cleaner.
SPEAKER_02So your catalog is pop culture metal. But you know what, Jesse? Why?
SPEAKER_03There was a dog, there was animal abuse in this, and like this turned it around, and he was like, I want to pet your dog. Yes. Because Steven Griffiths was horrible.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_03To animals.
SPEAKER_02And I didn't even know that this was I know. I never know. You never know. I never know. I know. So you're together, right?
SPEAKER_03It's fucking crazy. Crazy.
SPEAKER_02Again.

SPEAKER_02I was over here like a side.
SPEAKER_03I know. I I I have been behind. I had to look. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because last one you said it was like 97. I was like, no, this is 98, but I ain't gonna say shit because I ain't gonna make you look bad. But I left it in there because whatever, you know, but still, we're there, Lindsay.
SPEAKER_03And I just We are there.
SPEAKER_02I just want to pet your dog over there. Or pooch. Yes.
SPEAKER_03Comment right now if you know where over there came came from.
SPEAKER_02So no, like uh I want to know what your favorite Texas chainsaw, Texas Toast Chainsaw Massac song is. Comment that because they have such a great catalog of pop culture things. I mean, remember, you want to pet that dog? I want to pet that dog. That was the reason why this song came out. So that's amazing. These guys are amazing, dude. They're really cool on stage. And the guy was like, I seen him like doing a video, and his like the bottom of his belly was hanging out of his short shirt because he's tall like me. And I'm like, this guy looks like everything funnier. Oh god, dude, these guys are amazing, dude. I can't wait for him to keep it.
SPEAKER_03Well, in the in the famous SNL skit where uh, you know, more cowbell, like that was what made it funnier with Will Farrell's stomach hanging out.
SPEAKER_02Exactly, because he's tall like me too. He's long in the top.
SPEAKER_03It's hard to buy for the tall fellas with the long torsos.
SPEAKER_02Right, and I love that. It does make it so much more funny. Yeah, it's fun so much more. I want to pet his belly, not his dog, but you know what? I just want to anyhow.
