Ted Bundy doesn’t start as a headline, he starts as a story people around him tell to make everything feel normal. For our 100th episode, we kick off season three with part one of a three-part series that traces how secrecy, shame, and early violence can sit right beside a polished smile, a law school plan, and a “seems like a good guy” reputation.

We walk through Bundy’s early life and the identity lie that shaped it, plus the disturbing reports that show up long before the murders: cruelty, fear games, animal torture, voyeurism, and a growing need for control. We also talk about pornography and sexual violence content in the way Bundy later framed it, and why real prevention is less about moral panic and more about guidance, boundaries, and teaching what healthy relationships actually look like.

Then the mask gets sharper. We dig into his ambition, theft, politics, and the relationships he uses as motivation and leverage, including Liz Kendall and the “Stephanie” breakup that fuels a long con. One of the most chilling turns is the crisis hotline era, where Bundy works alongside Ann Rule, who later becomes central to how the world understands the case. From there, we lay out the first known 1974 attacks in Washington State, the patterns in his approach, the jurisdiction chaos that slows investigations, and the Lake Sammamish day that puts “Ted” into public fear.
