EPISODE 102: Ted Bundy PART 3
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A prison escapee shows up in Tallahassee with a new name and a “fresh start,” and within days the violence returns with a speed that still feels unreal. We walk through Ted Bundy’s final Florida spree, including the Chi Omega attacks near Florida State University, the evidence left behind, and the fear that ripples through survivors, families, and an entire campus community.
We also trace the timeline beyond Tallahassee, from the attempted abduction in Jacksonville to the kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Kimberly Leach in Lake City, a case that hits especially hard when the locations are places we drive past in real life. Along the way, we talk about why early assumptions in missing child cases can be so damaging, and how small details like witnesses, a license plate, and a routine traffic stop can become the thread that finally ties cases together.
From there, it’s the courtroom: the first nationally televised murder trial, Bundy’s choice to play his own defense, and how forensic evidence helps secure convictions and multiple death sentences. We end with the long appeals process, Bundy’s last-minute confession strategy, and the execution that closes the legal chapter but not the emotional one. Then, because we needed it, Jesse caps the series with a heavy band feature that gives us a real release after weeks in the dark.

AS ALWAYS D-A-S
A Chilling Opening Statement
SPEAKER_00Basically, I was a normal person. I wasn't uh some guy hanging out uh at bars or a bum, or um I wasn't a pervert in the sense that you know people look at somebody and say, I know there's something wrong with them and just tell. I mean, I I was essentially a normal person. I had good friends. I I uh I led a normal life, except for this one small but very potent and very destructive segment of it that I kept very secret and very close to myself and didn't let anybody know about it.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, Lindsay.
SPEAKER_03Happy Friday.
SPEAKER_02Here we go, here we go.
Bloody Marys And Show Setup
SPEAKER_01Hey, Jesse.
SPEAKER_03Hey Aliensy.
SPEAKER_01What are you having to drink today?
SPEAKER_02I made us some Bloody Marys.
SPEAKER_01You did. We are recording on in the morning. So we're having our breakfast drink.
SPEAKER_02This breakfast. What about second breakfast?
SPEAKER_01Well, we'll have that later. The the Bloody Mary is the second breakfast. Oh, it is. Because I actually made breakfast food. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yes. We need something. We gotta get geeked up here, Lindsay.
SPEAKER_01I know. Here we are.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01So, welcome everyone. This is the Drink About Something podcast with Jesse and Lindsay. And what we do here is we have a couple of drinks. I tell Jesse a true crime story, and then at the end of the episode, Jesse plugs an amazing band that he has gotten permission to put on our platform. Whew.
SPEAKER_02This is gonna be a hell of a fucking story here, Lindsay. What made
Feeling Old And Internet Roasts
SPEAKER_02you feel old this week?
SPEAKER_01I had quite the brain fart this week. Um, so Landon comes up to me, uh, my son, he works with me, and he's like, I just asked this guy if he needed anything else. We're both servers. Uh no, he said, I just asked this lady if she needed anything else. And the lady said, Rick Springfield. And he was like, Who is that? And I was like, hold on. He's a singer, he's a singer of the 80s. I can't remember what song. I can't remember what song. I had to Google it, Jesse.
SPEAKER_03And it's fucking Jesse's girl.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But you know what's crazy when you when you actually Google him, that song is not like the first one that comes up. It's other scores that he's done for movies. So I had to go to Spotify, and of course, Jesse's Girl was number one. And I was like, oh my god, duh. But yeah, so the lady told Landon that he she would like Rick Springfield. But that was funny. But what made me feel old was I forgot who Rick Springfield was. And that lady was like in her 70s.
SPEAKER_02Wow. But he was he she wasn't calling for you though, because like she was just like saying she wanted Rick Springfield, right?
SPEAKER_01No, that yeah, this was Landon's guess. Yeah. And when he just was like, Is there anything else I can get for you? And she was like, Rick Springfield. And he didn't know who that was.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01But when I told him what song, he's like, Oh, okay. I mean, of course we know Jesse's girl. Right, right.
SPEAKER_02I just didn't know that she knew that you were Jesse's girl. So she was calling for Lindsay. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_01It made me feel old because I forgot who the fuck that was, you know?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Which would have been a clever way to call for Lindsay, too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But that uh the other thing that made me feel old was that reel that I sent you that had like the fake radio station. How about call it all millennials? If you remember this song, your knees might crack and it was salt shaker. That's what I fucking wrote down, Lindsay.
SPEAKER_02Like all of the okay, and it wasn't because of that. I already had this. Okay, I just looked at your notes, but I didn't know scrolling through all the stuff online, and you just keep finding people hacking on us 40 and up type people.
SPEAKER_01And they're, I mean, we're hacking on ourselves, too. But you know what? Yeah, I'm definitely unbothered, we're having a good time. Everything is what it is.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it may take me an extra three to five or 15 or 20 minutes to get out of there.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and the the the cast of cheers was all younger than us, but they look older. Older. Yeah. So then preservatives worked out for us, man. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. We're all mumma, we're self-mummification, right?
SPEAKER_01We are. Yeah. All that country croc, and I can't believe it's not butter.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're all gonna look like Ramses the second. We're like fucking tootin' common over here, just fucking walking around. Yeah, that's what we're gonna do. And that's what made me feel all the all the stories that I keep finding on social media talking about old people, and we're not old, damn it, but our knees do hurt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's what they're saying.
SPEAKER_01Especially when I'm trying to do like lunges with weights. Oh my god. Yeah. They'd be hurting and cracking and making like weird noises that I don't think should be normal. Like, you know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But they're still working and they better work forever. Yeah. I should have mentioned that in my in our little um affirmations jar last night. Got a cool little moonwater jar ready for Harvest Moon 2026. Spoke some affirmations in it, did a little bit of witchy shit last night. That was fun.
SPEAKER_02We had a whole thing last night. Yeah. I even made like some
Witchy Night And Morning Vibes
SPEAKER_02home incense for fall weather. Yes.
SPEAKER_01It was fun.
SPEAKER_02It was very fun. The fire kind of has me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we're having cool weather in Florida already. This is amazing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. My nose is kind of a little uh cloggy right now because of it, but we still had a great time.
SPEAKER_01Go take some elderberry.
SPEAKER_02Elderberries. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's good for the immune. Or take you a tablespoon of honey.
SPEAKER_02Is that bloody merry good? It is really good. I mean, you see, I'm almost done. I don't need to be drinking all these spices.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But, anyways, we're gonna go ahead and get right into it, you guys.
Bundy Arrives In Tallahassee
SPEAKER_01We are here at the final part of this horrible saga. And when I tell you I'm ready to be done, I am ready to be done. So we have talked about Ted's beginnings, his crimes in Washington, Colorado, Idaho, and Utah. And now he has made his way to Florida as a prison escapee. He arrived in Tallahassee on January 8th, 1978, with a plan to leave his life of crime behind and start under a new name, Chris Hagen. He had a new positive outlook. But that didn't last very long. He had just enough money to rent a room at a boarding house near Florida State University. And then he tries to get gainful employment. When you mentioned last week that he is always drawn to collegiate areas, I mean that is just really like, yeah, you're 100% correct. Yeah. Because that's like all he knew was college and crime. When he shows up there, he's like he's like, these are my people. But they weren't at all. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. They weren't.
SPEAKER_01Because now he's 31, okay? Like, buddy. So he applies to one singular job, but he couldn't produce an ID and social security card. So he gives up on going legit really fast. So he goes back to stealing and shoplifting. He mainly would steal from women who would have their purses in the grocery cart compartment, you know, where you put your bread and stuff. That's where we put our purse. And as soon as they weren't looking or they were, you know, checking out the produce or whatever, he would steal their wallets. And that's why crossbodies should never go out of style. Keep your purse strapped to you, ladies. I saw a post about that the other day. Like, okay, since crossbodies are out, what are what purses are we wearing now? I'm like, crossbody. Because it's on me for all. I ain't gotta worry about it. And if somebody's trying to snatch it, they snatch at me too, and I'm gonna fight. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean dropping elbows.
SPEAKER_01Dropping elbows. Now he would attend lectures at FSU posing as a grad student. And he even makes friends with a local band that lives in that boarding house, in the same boarding house. Holy shit. But it wasn't enough. It doesn't take very long for him to start feeling lonely, which made him start getting angry. And then he gets pretty fucking rageful. I mean, this next spree is absolutely terrifying.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he's addicted. He just can't fucking shake it.
SPEAKER_01Well, if you notice, okay, so I'm I'm gonna go, I'm gonna start, we're gonna right off the rip here. But if you notice, like before in the western, the west coast, it was uh around one victim a month. And then when he's in Colorado, Idaho, and Utah, it's about two a month. And now we're fixing to talk about this January 15th, just a week, one week after he's arrived in Tallahassee. So, like I said, Ted, he's 31. He's not old, but he's not young, and he decides to go to a disco near campus, and he's trying to put his charm out on the ladies, and it is not working. Like they are like, you fucking creep bag. He's the old guy, he's the old guy trying to be cool, right? And they're all like, dancing, yeah. Oh my god, don't you put a bad name, don't you put that on that song? And he's giving the FSU girls the ick, and they reject him, and he does not take that well at all. So after his unsuccessful night at the club, he decides to go over to the Kai Omega house where he knew there was always a door that didn't lock. Like the mechanism on it was broken and nobody had fixed it.
SPEAKER_02Shit.
SPEAKER_01This is all gonna start at 2:45 a.m.
Anger Builds And Pattern Escalates
SPEAKER_01He picked up a firewood log from outside and enters the house and first goes into the room of 21-year-old Margaret Elizabeth Bowman. He bludgeoned her with the log and then strangled her with nylon stockings. Next, he enters the room of Lisa Janet Levy. He beats her until she is unconscious, then he strangles her, he tears one of her nipples off.
SPEAKER_03What the fuck?
SPEAKER_01Bites deeply into her butt cheek and then sexually assaults her with a can of hairspray.
SPEAKER_02Fucking hell.
SPEAKER_01It was hairspray? Oh, hairspray Lindsay. Clairol. Clairol hairspray. Damn. Lisa's room was connected to 21-year-old Kathy Kleiner and 21-year-old Karen Chandler's room, who will be attack number three and four.
SPEAKER_02Fuck you, Ted, and fuck your nine at the rocksbury.
unknownOh god.
SPEAKER_02Son of a bitch.
SPEAKER_01Sick. He broke Kathy's jaw and deeply lacerated her shoulder. And Karen would end up with a concussion, a broken jaw, loss of teeth, and a crushed finger. The last two girls will survive because some headlights shone into the room and Ted took off. All these attacks, two murdered, two horribly wounded, would all happen within 15 fucking minutes.
SPEAKER_02The ravage just fucking inhumane.
SPEAKER_01I mean, literally inhumane. Like and there were 30 other people in the house. Women
Chi Omega Attacks In Minutes
SPEAKER_01mostly. I think they said that they had one male honorary member. Um none of these 30 people heard a thing.
SPEAKER_02Wow. I bet he felt like he was a fucking warrior. And he's not so strong.
unknownGod.
SPEAKER_01So he flees the Kyomega house and heads eight blocks down to a basement apartment where he will attack 21-year-old Cheryl Thomas. He dislocated her shoulder, fractured her jaw and skull in five different places. And she will also survive her attack, but she would be left with permanent deafness in her left ear, and her equilibrium will be so damaged that it ended her dancing career. I know. That is rough, Lindsay. These attacks, he leaves quite a bit of evidence behind. Like the teeth marks on Lisa Levy's butt cheek, as well as semen and a nylon stocking mask containing hair samples at Cheryl's apartment. Five women in one night. Hell, all in less than an hour. And then he just went back to the boarding house. Now his housemates, they said that he looked insane and spaced out. Like he wasn't here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he was still riding his high. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And they probably just assumed that he was on something, you know, because the era of College Town. I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER_02His shitty ass fucking addiction.
SPEAKER_01On February 8th, Ted steals one of the school's vans and heads to Jacksonville. In Jacksonville, he approaches a 14-year-old named Leslie Parminer in a Kmart parking lot and says that his name is Richard Burton from the fire department. But her big brother Danny showed up and Ted took off. Like Danny confronted him. It's like, what are you doing? Now, what Ted didn't know was that Leslie's father was the Jacksonville Police Department's chief of detectives. And Danny, big brother, followed him and got his license plate number. And Leslie's dad figured out that the van was from Leon County later on, and this would all start to connect. Okay. Take a breath.
SPEAKER_02Are we here? We're here now.
SPEAKER_01That same afternoon, Ted went west to Lake City where we live. He slept in the van, and on February 9th, he goes to Lake City Junior High.
SPEAKER_02That we drive by every single day. I drive by it twice a day.
SPEAKER_01I'm sorry, he did not sleep in the van. That was later on. He went to the Holiday Inn. He stayed the night at the Holiday Inn. That was she on.
SPEAKER_02That's right, because that is a spot that you can come to.
SPEAKER_01And he was trying to use a stolen credit card and just kind of fled his bill. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And stay in, you can stay in that room, which they've remodeled, I think, right?
SPEAKER_01Is it still that one got torn down?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but that was a spot. I remember everybody would go and stay in his room. It was like a big thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we used to eat there on Sundays sometimes when they would have the huge buffet.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01At the boarding house. That's what it was called, too. The boarding house restaurant that was attached to the Holiday Inn.
SPEAKER_02Yep. That is right. So like this school is just like a classic, you know, like the beautiful oak trees, just the the front view of it is just, it is something that is you drive by it and you're like, damn. When you know, you know. You know, you're like, I think she was probably standing underneath this oak tree, you know?
SPEAKER_01And it's just oh and my aunt lived on St. John Street, which is right behind. So I was go, I went there my whole life, you know, just hanging out. Right. And I had no, I had no idea. Yeah, I mean, it was logo by the pool. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then like, yeah, our city pool is right behind it. You know, and we would go and have, you know, gatherings and whatever at their house. We were young, so we were partying and shit, but still, like, yeah, we're like right there. It's like we're fucking here now, Lindsay. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01So we go to Lake City Junior High and approaches Kimberly, Diane, Leach. It was a cold, stormy day. Like they said, it was in the 30s, windy, rainy. And Kimberly had been asked to come back to Home Room because she had forgotten her purse. And she walked back to Home Room with her friend Priscilla. But somewhere along the line, her and Priscilla were separated, and Priscilla last saw her being beckoned by a man in a white van. And Kim never came back to class. A crossing guard also saw this interaction, and they both, like Priscilla and this crossing guard, both assumed that Ted was Kim's dad. Her remains were found seven weeks later in Swinee River State Park. She had been raped, and he cut her throat and mutilated her gentle genitals. She was only 12 years old.
SPEAKER_03Oh my God.
SPEAKER_01I'm sorry, it all just kind of piled up on me right there.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's like every bit of it all just came to a head. All the parts. And then now it's hitting home, you know?
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_02But I mean literally hitting home. Like not taken away from either.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, not at all. But I mean, it's like I've kept it together and it just all flooded towards my emotions right at that moment.
SPEAKER_02Oh goodness. How did you feel when I pulled you up to where you're going to be able to do that? I know. I was like, this is.
SPEAKER_01My family is buried in the same graveyard. It's that's crazy. Like all of my family. Well, not all of them, but all of my dad's side of the family is there. I know. We're taking a breath.
Fifth Attack And Evidence Left
SPEAKER_02I guess this one really does hit because this is like this is the one though. The one that really made everything happen. It did.
SPEAKER_01It did.
SPEAKER_02And it happened here. And so this is like uh it's oh, the weight. It's it's it's the weight of every one of them. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, that's what I'm saying. Like, I did like all of their faces, because after you know, looking up each individual victim, like all their faces just flashed before my eyes right then. Was I was talking about her and then her because she was so little. And they were, and I've even heard that people say that she looked older than no, she didn't. She looked 12. You know what I mean? When I looked at pictures, now she may have looked older for her age back then, but now she would look like an absolute baby. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, when they did when they did photo shoots and stuff, they would actually, it was the thing. That was what you did. You kind of made everybody look a little bit different, older with the way they wore their makeup and took the pictures.
SPEAKER_01Well, this it was her school picture, and she looked like a 12-year-old.
SPEAKER_02Every picture I've seen.
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. None of these women had a life after this. That was that there was nothing they didn't become.
SPEAKER_01Even the survivors, like just continuous fear. Um, some of them were.
SPEAKER_02Some of them were mothers, but but they didn't get to progress on in life. They didn't that it was the end of it all. It's the all-that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01Like, even the survivors, their life it was forever changed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Even Carol Durant, who was unharmed, she had to live in fear, you know? Yeah. So Kimberly's parents didn't know that she was missing until the end of the day. And of course, police just thought she had run away. But that wasn't like her. She wasn't, and that's what I cannot stand about law enforcement when they assume a child has run away. If they've never done it before, if and it doesn't matter if they have if oh, they ran away. Go look for them. It's a 12-year-old kid. But she was a good girl, and she was on the court to be Valentine Queen.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_03I know.
SPEAKER_01Sad. Before her body was found, Ted heads back to Tallahassee. He ditches the van, and on February 12th, he steals another car. An orange VW Beetle. Matt told you he was gonna get another one. And he heads toward Pentacola. Like it was almost at the Alabama line, okay? And he was stopped by Officer David Lee. What he doesn't like, just like Hayward, Officer Hayward in episode or in part two, he doesn't understand that these cops and these small towns, they know everything. They know if you're out late, like that's why he got pulled over. Like he was suspicious of this orange beetle. Sure enough, comes up stolen. So he pulls Ted over
Jacksonville Close Call With Leslie
SPEAKER_01and searched the vehicle. The car contained the IDs of three female FSU students, 21 stolen credit cards, a pair of dark rimmed glasses, because that was a part of his one of his disguises, and the same pants that he had worn acting as Richard Burton. They were like a plaid flare type thing. This was all found after Ted had resisted arrest. He fought Officer Lee and tried to get his gun before he finally gave in. And when he was in the back of the car, Ted says to Lee, I wish you had killed me. Like he says it over and over.
SPEAKER_02He didn't know what he had right there. He did not know. No, uh David Lee had no idea that he had.
SPEAKER_01After Kimberly Leach had been found and Leslie Parminer identified his mugshots, and the girls, uh the surviving girls from Kyomega as well. All the dots started to connect. His first trial began in June of 79 in Miami. This was the first trial to be nationally televised. And of course, Ted was his own defense. Famously. Now he had five court-appointed attorneys as well, but Ted was doing the most. He refused a plea deal and sabotaged any defense that he had with quote spite, distrust, and grandiose delusions.
SPEAKER_02Right. He thought that he could like be so explosive in the courtroom.
SPEAKER_01Well, because he's not admitting to any of his crimes other than theft at this point.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Like when he gets arrested by the Officer David Lee and he's in questioning and stuff, like he almost, almost came out and said and admitted about Kimberly because they were urging. They're like, Kimberly's their family's just trying to find her. Just tell us, tell us. But he was counseled not to say anything. And he won't for a very long time. Witnesses testified, and a forensic onontologist matched his teeth casting to the bite mark that was left on Lisa Levy. Carol Duranch, the survivor from I think it was Colorado, she also testified at this trial. On July 24th, 1979, Ted was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder, and two counts of burglary, and he was given his first death sentence. Six months later in Orlando, Ted stood trial for the abduction and murder of Kimberly Leach. And the prosecution was led by Lake City's own George Robert or Bob Deacle Sr. Ted took this opportunity to marry Carol Ann Boone in open court. Really? While she's on the stand, he proposed
Kimberly Leach Abduction In Lake City
SPEAKER_01and she accepted, and it's legally binding in Florida. I don't know about other states, but yeah. What the fuck? And then he was given his second death sentence.
SPEAKER_02How is this a thing?
SPEAKER_01How is this why do you why do you want to do this? Why what the fuck? Well, you meant Carol goes all the way back to Washington. Right. Right. But still, what the fuck? Holy shit, Lindsay. On February 10th, 1980, Ted was sentenced to death for a third time after appeals, and he famously stood up and shouted, Tell the jury they were wrong. With the most horrifying look I've ever seen in my life. But Ted would go on to reside at Florida State Prison in Rayford. And then go on to father a child with Carol Ann Boone. Still, what the fuck? And her name was Rosebundy. I mean, that's on Wikipedia. And was born October 24th, 1981. Now I probab I'm I'm guessing that this woman got a different identity later on when she finds out who she was. I wonder if she never no, she had to have found out who she was at some point, right? How do you not know?
SPEAKER_02And I'll shit is yeah, she's two months older than me. But the daughter, yeah. But how the fuck do you marry somebody when you got all the evidence just piled up? It's it's all plain as fucking day. You know, there's no any other suspect. Nobody and everything that they say about all the individual, ravaging horrendous how they were found. So bad, Lindsay. I know. It's so terrible. Oh my god. Yeah. Uh-huh. I'm just like, you're coming back and you're doing this. The necrophilia, dude.
SPEAKER_01Like, the fuck.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like, it's, I'm like, I'm like, now I'm just at the point where I'm just like, it's almost like a trauma blocked. Like, I just can't think about it anymore. It's just so horrible. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02You've been climbing this hill for three weeks. I'm so done.
SPEAKER_01I just finished both books yesterday. You've been gonna plug. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You've been trodging. Detroit. You have been. Uh yeah. But still, like you're in court with him and you're looking at all the evidence. Everything just keeps lining up every time, all points connected. And then they're saying all the parts, aspects, and things for each individual human that he has defiled. And you still were married. Exactly. You still are.
SPEAKER_01Well, he had a shit ton of other women supporters. Like he had a fan base, man. Just like Manson will have one.
SPEAKER_02And yeah, it's and we've talked about that so many times.
SPEAKER_01People have one right now. You know what I mean? Chris Watts has a female fan base right now.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's the one with the tattoo smiley face thing? No. Oh, that oh, he definitely has one.
SPEAKER_01Uh Deadpool, Wade Wilson, Deadpool killer. But about Chris Watts, who killed his wife and two children. Yeah. His pregnant wife and two children.
SPEAKER_02That's right. That's right.
SPEAKER_01Ted would continue to appeal, but would continuously be denied. He would start conducting interviews, basically confessing, but in the third person. So what they did was they brought these guys in to interview him that I'm gonna plug here at the end to basically say, Hey, if you were the killer, how would you do it? And I that's what I've I've listened to all of that. And he was like, you know, and it that was what was intriguing to me how he he did that through hours-long interviews, just talking about it as if it was somebody else, knowing he did that shit. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean, as soon as you got him enthusiastic about something, I'm sure that he couldn't help but say all those parts, and they all lined up too. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01In 1984, Ted was found with two hacksaws in his possession, and then later on with an unauthorized mirror. Like he was he was definitely trying again. Um, it was, I heard in a couple of resources that Carol kind of told him, don't.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but she was getting out of Rayford. You're up in A. You are up in there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Now he was later asked for insight into another serial killer that we will cover in the future, but all his talking really didn't help. He was just, he was just happy to get out of his cell for a while. You know what I mean? He did everything he could to postpone his death date. And then slowly began to actually confess to many of his crimes. And they would call this strategy Ted's Bones for Time scheme. Like he would reveal where one was located. That would push back his death date a little further, a little further. Well, they finally got sick of that shit, you know. Even though, in my honest opinion, I think after the confessions, his brain should have been studied longer because who the fuck does shit like this? You know the thing about it though, Lindsay, he didn't say it all. He didn't say it all. He gave his final interviews and actually talked of suicide the night before his execution. He declined his last meal. And on January 24th, 1989, at 42 years old, Ted said his last words to attorney Jim Coleman and Minister Fred Lawrence. He said, Jim and Fred, I'd like you to give my love to my friends and family. And at 7.06 a.m., he was executed by the electric chair and pronounced dead at 7.16. Across the road in a pasture, several hundred people gathered like they were tailgating for a football game, and they danced and they cheered and they set off fireworks when the hearse drove by. Ted was cremated in Gainesville, and his ashes were scattered at Cascade Range in Washington. The stats on the Wikipedia say that there are 20 confirmed
Traffic Stop Arrest And Connections
SPEAKER_01murders, 30 confessed, and over 36 suspected. There was actually in his youth, right down the road, a young lady went missing on his same street. That's never been found, and that was when he was a teenager. That's what I'm saying. So Washington, he starts doing one a month. Usually it's a couple with years in between, then it progresses. Then it I mean, I mean you see the progression from Washington to Florida.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and the way that he did his the start of our stories, the way that he took on his first victims.
SPEAKER_01It felt like it had been done before.
SPEAKER_02He had been down that road many times, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. I have to take a sip. Oh my God. There were four survivors, and it is said that he either had bipolar disorder, antisocial disorder, or excuse me, antisocial personality disorder, multiple personality disorder, which is now the ID. And I don't, I guess, because he was killed, what did I just say, in '89. And those were not studied the way that they are now. I don't believe that he should still be among the living. But it would have been great to have an official, some kind of diagnosis where they actually figured out what the fuck made his made him do shit like that, you know? And like they let him talk and they let him do the interviews, which is great too. But there could should have been more scientific study, I believe, behind behind that brain to get something useful in humanity for his mental state.
SPEAKER_02I think it was a little bit of all that, you know. Probably. Probably the biggest fucking plethora of the nastiest mix that you could ever put together in somebody's head. And he was using that for his also addiction because he could not get away from it. It was an absolute addiction, just could not get away from it, had to have it.
SPEAKER_01And one more time, I'm gonna say he blames most of his shit on porn. More most of all of his deviancy on violent pornography.
SPEAKER_02And his early perception of fat and trying to seek the stuff.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I I don't think that you can blame it on that, but I don't think that it was a help by any means to watch violent porn and then try to go out in the world and have a healthy sexual relationship with somebody. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Well, in an immature state, if you start witnessing all that. Yeah, if that's all you're watching, that's what you're gonna expect. Yeah, you think you can just go do this because this is after after the movie's over with, I can go back to being me.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02And he was creating some fucked up ass movies.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so the books I used were The Stranger Beside Me by Anne Rule, Ted Bundy, Conversations with a Killer by Stephen G. McCod and Hugh Ainsworth. And then there is a three-hour interview on YouTube, uh, his final interview that I watched uh a lot
Trials Bite Mark Evidence Death Sentences
SPEAKER_01of that. Now there is a book by George Robert or Bob Deacle Sr. that I didn't get into because it's not available on audiobook. And it is called The Last Murder: The Investigation, Prosecution, and Execution of Ted Bundy. And I do want to, I actually want to buy that. There's a hardback on Amazon that I do want to own and get into that. So, but I won't read it for a very long time because I got I gotta get this guy out of my head.
SPEAKER_02Would it be too far to get him to sign that because you actually serve him all the time? I know get him to sign it.
SPEAKER_01I know. I don't know. I would have to ask my boss the rules on that.
SPEAKER_02So or just give it to me and I'll come up there and you know to be like, he's here. Can you come up here real quick and see if he'll sign this book? Yeah. You know?
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02That's different, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But that is it, you guys. I'm done with Ted Bundy. Like I said, if you want to and I do suggest, like if if you are, you know, into true crime and want to know even more about this case, because there's a lot more than we could fit into three parts. Like Jesse said, we can make an entire podcast about this dude. Um, yeah, use those resources, and there's a lot more out there, but I think that those two books were the best that I could get for resource information because Anne Rule knew him and knew him well. And it took her a long time to be able to come to terms with the fact that he did this. But she did.
SPEAKER_02But whoa, fucking woo.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know, I know.
SPEAKER_02Whoa.
SPEAKER_01It has been quite the journey that I am happy to be done with.
SPEAKER_02Are we gonna lift the ceiling now? It has been crushing.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02It has been three whole episodes of crushing.
SPEAKER_01And me like six weeks of research.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, and then we got like next week we're we're gonna be in in uh scaradies talking about it too. Yes, yes, yes, yes. With our bestie Elizabeth Kohler, we're gonna be down there hanging out. So if you hear this, check it out too. We're gonna be on the lives and doing things. Yeah, that's gonna be fun.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02She's excited too.
SPEAKER_01I know, I'm so excited. I'm so excited to see her, to see all the spookies, to listen to some panels. Then we're gonna check out Hallow Scream afterwards, our first time there. So, not at Bush Gardens, but doing the Hallow Scream thing. Yeah, that's gonna be fun.
SPEAKER_02Yes, we got fun stuff lined up. So the ceiling is stopped, but we haven't raised it up yet. I think next weekend we'll be completely done.
SPEAKER_01Raya.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and she might have things too, because she's been doing this stuff a lot longer than us. So, yeah. Lindsay. Shit's sake, Lindsay. Um, you know, I guess I'll say thank you. I guess.
SPEAKER_01But we did it. We got we got we covered Ted. And I ain't even got when we decided that that was gonna be our hundredth episode. I've been like kind of dreading it for the last because I like I said, I didn't even know everything until the last six weeks. And we all none of us will ever know, honestly.
SPEAKER_02I feel like we're in a house of horrors, and that's one of the doors that you had to open. It was you've been looking at that motherfucker for a long time, and now you done near it there, Lynn. I know. Damn it, damn it, Lane.
SPEAKER_01I remember it was me, you and Jojo sitting around the table, and I don't know if you had asked or if she had asked when Bundy was coming, and I was like, hmm. And one of us suggested the hundredth episode, and I was like, okay. So it's not right around the corner, but then it ended up being right around the corner.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, now you can stare at that door no longer. None.
SPEAKER_01Now, Jesse, I am really, really excited for whatever band that you're about to play for us because he has hidden it from me, like super hidden. It's taped. And I don't I don't know. So are you gonna unveil? It's like so it's you usually he'll write the band and the song at the bottom of my script that he prints out for me every week, and it's just there for me to read. This week he taped that shit up. Staples. What is it? What are we doing? What are we listening to?
SPEAKER_02How about I just play it and then say the band after? Okay. Ooh, pins and needles, Lindsay.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02How's that? How's that?
SPEAKER_01This must be really, really, really exciting.
SPEAKER_02And then then you'll be like full on organic right afterwards. I think nothing. You know, it's like it's like I can tell you now and you'll know before, or just let it just fucking happen. All right. How's that?
SPEAKER_01All right, ladies and gentlemen, Jesse's gonna play the band, and then we'll hear my reaction afterwards.
SPEAKER_03Are we

If you want to know anything about me, that's my type of music right there. Like I like all the genres, but that shit. Micah! Thank you. Jesse, thank you. Oh my god. Oh, that was amazing. Yeah. Uh, what a way. What that like you've had in the notes. Amazing way to close out a series. Yeah. Yes. That was perfect. You are the tits.
SPEAKER_02We strive to please Lindsay.
SPEAKER_01And I'm jealous because you've talked to Micah Bean.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, you know.
SPEAKER_01Thanks. That's fucking amazing. I could not be happier. Yeah. That just gave me a whole endorphin pump. What was he on?
SPEAKER_02Like America's Got Talent or some shit? They booed him up. Come on, dude.
SPEAKER_01America's Got Talent don't know shit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That is talent. And you know, he can do all the cleans too. Like he can do any fun. Like vocal-wise, he has probably the best vocals I've ever seen in a human that can make so many different sounds. And that's his fun too. And the whole band is a fun, magical, animated, talented band, horror theme. You know, they do the whole thing, you know, and and it's shit like what we just talked about that transpired into being able to do this in a theatrical way. Yes. You know?
SPEAKER_01So they can do exactly. Yeah. Keep the horror for the theater. Yeah. And the music. Yeah, for sure. Don't do it in real life.
SPEAKER_02Never.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that was so good. I am just I want to listen to that again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That's

SPEAKER_02why I came home and I was playing some uh something for you last night. Yeah. And then he was doing that gurgle thing with the other song. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01The Predator sound and all of that. God damn. Oh, that was amazing. And that was them, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_02Yes. I knew it. I knew it, didn't I? Yeah, you knew it. You know it. And they do a cover of Toxic, too.
SPEAKER_01I know. I heard that. That's what they did on America's Got Talent.
SPEAKER_02Was it? Mm-hmm. Yeah. But it was just like I think there is some real big hitters that can take notes, also.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02On what he what Micah does. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_01Amazing talent, amazing band, amazing song, amazing way to close out this three-part horror top 10 worst person on the planet. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02For sure. This is one of our biggest hitters, so I had to play one of our biggest hitters. Yes. It was really heavy. I love it.
SPEAKER_01Love it. Like I was, y'all, I went to another element sitting over here with that shit in my headphones. We descended. So we're done for today.
